FC: The Changing Environment
Environmental Shift *Page 2-3: Harmful Activities *Page 4-5: Beneficial Activities *Page 6-7: Predicting an impact *Page 8-9: Possible Solutions *Page 10-11: Resources | Welcome to my Mixbook technology curriculum project! The following pages are examples of work that students might create and publish following the directions of my The Environment is changing lesson plan found at the end of this Mixbook. Technology is a powerful motivator for students. They can create projects that are aesthetically pleasing and that can be published to share with other students, family, and friends. In addition to being viewed on the Web, a Mixbook creation can be printed out as a hard copy book that ban be housed in the classroom, presented to the school library, or purchased by parents and guardians as a keepsake of their student;s work. 2: "Every year, one American produces over 3,285 pounds of hazardous waste:" Americans generate 30 billion foam cups, 220 million tires, and 1.8 billion disposable diapers" | "Over 80% of items in landfills can be recycled, but they're not: "Vehicle exhaust contributes roughly 60% of all carbon monoxide emissions nationwide, and up to 95% in cities"
.+Conservation and Preservation- The waste from sustainable farming stays within the farm's ecosystem and cannot cause buildup or pollution +Biodiversity- Farms raise different types of plants and animals, that rotate around the fields to enrich the soil
Simple Ideas +Buy organic food +take a field trip to an organic farm +When donating money, find out where the money goes and who it supports
+ ""Scientists project that the average global temperature will increase 3.2-7.2 F by 2100" +"Rising sea levels could wash out highly populated coastal areas. Scientists predict sea levels could rise between 7 and 23 inches by 2100" +"1.6 million species face extinction from disappearing habitats, changing ecosystems and acidifying oceans" +"Deaths from global warming are expected to double in just 25 years, to 300,000 people a year"
+ The average American will use 650 pounds of paper each year, this means 100 million tons of wood could be saved year year.. +An average American will use about 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour. +About 80% of what American will throw away can be recycled and only 28% is actually recycled. | What you can do to help: - Use fluorescent bulbs - Use recycled paper - Take shorter shower - Drive less or carpool - Plant a tree - Wash your clothes in cold water and air dry your clothes

The lesson follows the Missouri GLE and Standards. GLE #1: The SWBAT describe beneficial and harmful activities of organisms, including humans, and explain how these activities affect organisms within an ecosystem.(GLE Science, Scope and Sequence- Ecosystems and Populations, Strand 4 Changes in Ecosystems and Interactions of Organisms, Concept D- Grade 6)(Performance Standards 1.1, 1.2, 1.4,) GLE #2: The SWBAT predict the impact of a natural environmental change on the organisms in a ecosystem. (GLE Science, Scope and Sequence- Ecosystems and Populations, Strand 4 Changes in Ecosystems and Interactions of Organisms, Concept D- Grade 6)(Performance Standards 1.1, 1.2, 1.4, 3.1)
