FC: Platypuses Taylor Lamb B1

Platypus is not a phylum, so the only species that there is, is the platypus. The platypus is a very unique animal as well, so there are not any animals similar to it. There are no specific platypus studying scientists, there are just zoologists.

Every body part of the Platypus has a specific purpose. . Tail: the tail holds fatty tissue which stores energy supplies and also is used as an insulator. . Fur: provides insulation. .Teeth: grinding food. .Spur: to secrete venom

The platypus has special adaptations that it has developed over time. A few of those would be: Its bill. When the platypus goes underwater, it closes its eyes tight so it uses its bill to find food. There's its shoulder girdle which it uses to dig burrows. The eyes and nostrils are located on the top of the head so that when underwater, it can still breathe. And also its' streamline shape so that it can move through the water quickly.

The platypuses can start to reproduce when they are just two years old. They reproduce in the water. | The man goes over to the female and releases his sperm into the water. It will then fertilize the eggs already inside her. | Once that happens, the life cycle starts. See over to the next page. Here's some more words so it doesn't look like I have little info.

Once they mate and become pregnant, they seal themselves in a nest of dry grass. She carefully protects the eggs between her tail and body until they hatch. | Ten days after she first seals herself up, the eggs hatch. They stay with the mother for four months, and they nurse milk from her during that time. After those four months, platypuses leave to swim and hunt for food. They then live a very secluded life style, sleeping for seventeen hours day and only leaving the nest to hunt and eventually mate.
