FC: Family Favorites from Fifty Years

2: Annabelle Peavey | Pancakes | "All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast." ~John Gunther | Mix with fork: 1 egg, 1 c. milk, 2 tbsp. oil Add: 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tbsp. sugar, 1 tbsp. baking powder and 1 1/4 c. flour Bake on electric skillet at 350. Kim's tip: If accidentally flipped into a pitcher of milk, extract immediately and serve to Lewis.

3: Chef's Secret When frying potatoes to serve with eggs, add small cubes of bread and use lots of butter!

4: Peach Milkshakes 1 c. vanilla ice cream 1 c. hunks of peaches 1 tbsp. lemon juice 2 tbsp. sugar 1 c. milk | I scream, you scream, We all scream for ice cream!

5: From our heads down to our legs, We love eggs! | Where is that Frank when you need him? | "Eggs a la Golden Ra" Slice many hard-boiled eggs in half. Slice whites with official egg slicer; put yolks in sieve. Mash yolks against sieve with spoon. Make white sauce by melting 2 tbsp. butter. Stir in 2 tbsp. flour, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/8 tsp. pepper. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth and bubbly. Remove from heat and stir in 1 c. milk. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil for one minute. Add sliced whites to sauce. Serve over toast and sprinkle with yolk.

7: Pennsylvania Dutch Funny Cake* for Kim and Frank's Funny Wedding Celebration | Mix and pour into unbaked pie shell: 1/2 c. sugar, 1/3 c. cocoa, 1/3 c. hot water,1/2 tsp. vanilla. For batter, beat smooth: 2/3 c. sugar, 1/3 c. spry, 1 c. flour, 1 egg, 1 tsp. vanilla, 2/3 c. milk, 1 tsp. baking powder. Pour over cocoa mixture. Bake 350 for at least 50 minutes. Let cool and frost with white frosting. | *Five-generation favorite! | *Joe's favorite, too!

8: Chicken and Biscuits | Convince all participants who wish to eat how fun it is to chop mounds of carrots, onions, and celery. Saute. Add chicken stock prudently saved from an earlier roasted chicken. Transform into delicious chicken gravy to serve on Mom-approved baking powder biscuits. | Baking Powder Biscuits Cut 8 tbsp. spry into 2 c. flour, 3 tsp. baking powder, and 1/2 tsp. salt. Use fork to stir in 2/3 c. milk. Knead 4-5 times; pat to 1/2-inch thick. Cut in circles. Bake 10 minutes at 450. Treva's tip: Don't overwork the dough! Kay's tip: Beg Mom to bake the biscuits instead!

9: Kudos to Gwen for being the only grandchild keeping the popcorn cereal tradition alive!

10: Texas Cake Bring to boil: 1/2 c. oleo, 1/2 c. spry, 1/4 c. cocoa, and 1 c. water. Add to 2 c. Wondra flour, 2 c. sugar, and 1 tsp. cinnamon. Beat 2 eggs, 1 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp. vanilla, and 1/2 c. buttermilk. Add to above. Bake in greased jelly roll pan at 350 for 20 min. Frosting - Bring to boil: 1/2 stick oleo, 2 tbsp. cocoa, 3 tbsp. milk. Remove and add 2 c. conf. sugar and 1/2 tsp. vanilla

11: Kitchen Helpers (not quite Texas-sized)!

12: Aunt Chrissie | Barabrith | Mix and let stand 'til bubbly: 3 pckgs. yeast, 3/4 c. warm water, 1 tbsp. sugar, 2 tbsp. flour. Add 1 1/2 tsp. salt, 4 tbsp. sugar, 1 tbsp. oil, 2 c. strong tea, and 5 1/2 c. flour. Mix 2 c. raisins, 2 c. currants, 1 t. cinnamon, and 1/4 c. chopped citron with 1/2 c. flour and add to above. Knead in 1-2 c. more flour. Knead, rise, form into three loaves, and let rise again. Bake at 400 for 10 min., then at 350 for 50-70 min.

13: Sour Cream Twists Soften two pckgs. yeast in 1/2 c. hot water and 1 tbsp. sugar. Let stand 15 min. Mix 1 1/2 c. sugar and 2 tsp. vanilla; reserve. Beat 4 eggs, 1 c. sour cream and 2 tsp. vanilla. Cut 1 c. oleo and 1 c. Crisco into 7 c. flour and 2 tsp. salt. Add all liquids and chill dough (at least two hours). Divide into thirds and roll out 3x, folding into thirds and sprinkling with vanilla sugar each time. Cut into strips and twist. Bake on foil-lined sheets at 375 for 12 minutes. | Chef's Secret Works best to greatly praise Jill for how well she makes these.

14: Mexican Crinkles Cream 1 1/2 c. Crisco, 2 c. sugar, and 2 eggs. Add 1/2 c. light corn syrup & 4 sq. melted chocolate. Add 3 1/2 c. flour, 4 tsp. b.s., 1/2 tsp. salt, and 2 tsp. cinnamon. Roll walnut-sized balls in granulated sugar. Bake at 350 for 10 min. Let stand on sheets for few minutes.

16: Grated Apple Pie Mix six medium coarsely grated apples, 3/4 c. sugar, 2 tbsp. flour, 1 tbsp. lemon juice, 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, and 1/8 tsp. salt. Put in pie shell; dot with butter. Cover with top crust. Bake at 450 for 15 minutes; turn down to 375 to finish - about 45 minutes. Using a variety of apples is best. | Pie Crust Cut 2/3 c. plus 2 tbsp.Crisco in 2 c. flour and 1 tsp. salt. Stir in 1/4 c. water with fork. | This is yummy raw! | Chef's Secret If you have leftover pie crust,roll thin, spread with melted butter and cinnamon sugar, and bake to have pinwheels! | Happy Birthday to You!

17: Gotcha! | The Stephenson Birthday Butter Trick | ...with a Maloney twist!

18: Stephensons | Thanksgiving Rolls | Dissolve 2 pckg. of yeast in 1/2 c. water. Melt 1/2 c. oleo with 1 1/2 c. milk. Mix 4 c. flour, 2 tsp. salt, 1/2 c. sugar. Beat in 2 eggs, yeast, and liquids. Stir in 3 c. more flour. Knead. Let rise. Divide in half; roll each into circle. Cut into 16 crescents. Let rise. Bake on air-bake sheets for 10 min at 400. | Loaves of Love Best-Seller!
