2: The Best French Toast in the World When I was little, I use to wonder how grandma made those extra large slices of bread. I think breakfast was my favorite because I was always one of the first to be awake when I was real little, and I could go in and talk with great-grandma alone while she made my french toast. Great-grandma always sprinkled powdered sugar on my french toast and nobody has ever made it better! - Sara | extra thick sliced bread dip slices in mixture of beaten eggs/milk add cinnamon; preheat griddle, with small amount of oil or non-stick spray, brown on each side til eggs cook through sprinkle with powerded sugar

3: Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice | Swedish Coffee Coffee, The Old-Fashioned Way In a large pot with the coffee grounds thrown in, along with an egg, this coffee needed to be strained before drinking | The smell of Mother's coffee, and the noise of oranges being squeezed signaled it was time to get up. Mother would pick the oranges herself, and they were so delicious. Mother's coffee was also a highlight and her special way of making it gave it"character" -Lee

4: Ma's German Coffeecake 2 cups flour 1 t salt 1/4 cup butter, softened Mix like pie crust. 1 pkg. dry yeast 2 T sugar 1/4 cup water 3 eggs 2/3 cup milk Sprinkle yeast and sugar into water. Let stand til foamy. Place ingredients in mixing bowl. Beat at medium speed for 3 minutes Spread well in greased 9x13 baking dish Sprinkle with topping 2/3 c flour, 1/4 butter, 1/2 t cinnamon Combine and sprinkle over cake mixture Cover and let rise for 30 minutes Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes

6: Sweet 'n Sour Cole Slaw 3/4 c sugar 1/2 c vegetable oil 1/2 c vinegar head cabbage grated onion & green pepper slivered Mix altogether Keeps for several days | Perfect Picnics

7: Apple Pineapple Slaw small head cabbage grated about 3 T finely minced onion small flat can pineapple, drained and cut up About 1/2 tart apple, diced About 3/4 c mayo 1/2 t. sugar, 1/2 t. vinegar, blended Mix with cabbage mixture Chill.

8: Crab Salad 1 flat can crab meat 2 stalks celery cut fine 1/2 cup green pepper, chopped about 10 ripe olives chopped about 3 or 4 green olives chopped a few capers a hard boiled egg chopped and handfall of pasta real small shells (cooked and drained) 1 small green onion, finely chopped enough mayonnaise to bind all ingredients together Serve over shredded lettuce.

10: Cream Puffs | 1 cup water 1 stick margarine Boil the above until melted Add one cup of flour and remove from heat. Add pinch of salt. 4 eggs - Add one at a time and beat WELL after each addition with wooden spoon. Drop by tablespoon full on greased cookie sheet. Bake 30 mins. at 350 degrees. Remove immediately and cut off tops. Scoop out goop. | Cream Puff Filling 3/4 cup sugar 1/3 cup flour 3 T corn starch pinch of salt 1 1/2 t vanilla 1 pint whipping cream Mix sugar, flour, cornstarch, and salt in large saucepan. Gradually stir in milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick and boiling. Boil 1 minute stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in butter and vanilla. Cool. Stir in whipping cream, whipped. Chill. Fill cream puffs, replace lids and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Enjoy!

11: The Cake | 1 3/4 c flour 1 t. salt 2 cups sugar 2 eggs 3/4 cup cocoa 1 cup buttermilk 1 cup strong coffee 2 t baking soda 1 t baking powder 1 t vanilla 1/2 c vegetable oil Combine all dry ingredients in a lg. bowl. Add rest of ingredients and beat 2 mins. at medium speed. (batter will be thin) Grease and flour 9"x13" baking dish. Pour batter into dish and bake 325 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Test for doneness w/ toothpick. Let cool. Cream Cheese Frosting 8 oz. cream cheese 1/2 cup butter 1 t vanilla 1 lb powdered sugar Soften butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add vanilla and sugar and beat until smooth. Frost cake. | Whether a picnic or dessert to an amazing meal, Black Magic cake was a favorite of everyone. The cake and the Swedish Coffee was the perfect ending to many a perfect meal.

12: Oven Tapioca Beef Stew 2 lbs. beef 1 onion carrots, celery, potatoes cut in chunks, & place in 9x13 baking dish Combine the following and pour over ingredients 1 cup tomato juice 1 T sugar, 2 t. salt Bake 325 for 3 hrs.

13: Chicken Tetrazzini 3 lbs. or 1 pkg. chicken breasts. Simmer 1 hour. Spaghetti, cooked Save one cup stock Put noodles (spaghetti) Pour noodles into flat, buttered casserole dish. Cover with mushrooms. Add thinly sliced chicken to cover noodles & mushrooms. Pour rest of sauce over chicken and sprinkle with 1/4 c parmesan. Bake at 350 for 30 mins.
