FC: Gestural Literacy: Ideas for the Classroom

1: Idea #1: Sort photos from magazines. Students engage in discussions about the messages each person is sending via gestures.

4: Idea #2: Take photos of the students demonstrating emotions, then invite a class discussion about what is being shown in the photos.

5: What's he expressing? What else could he be expressing? Any cultural considerations?

7: Idea #3: Video tape the students engaged in discussion and dissect the body language as a class with no audio. OR use a video of others engaged in discussion.

8: Use role play or have students develop skits to demonstrate various communicative gestures

11: Students create small figures to demonstrate various gestural messages. These could be clay, aluminum foil (pictured at left), pipecleaners, etc...
