iPad Importance | I think that using technology in the classroom can be very beneficial to students learning, but it can also take away from some of the skills that can be important for students and children to learn. Research has shown that Ipads can help students develop necessary skills in reading and math. The apps available for the Ipad can offer children the ability to practice their reading and math skills while playing games and having fun.
Students use iPad's in the classroom for all sorts of different things.
In an article that I read it took a look into a small district in Maine that the superintendent was putting Ipads into all of the kindergarten classes, one per student. The reasoning behind this was the kindergarteners would learn responsibility skills because at first the teacher would be in charge of the class’s Ipads, but eventually the students would be able to bring them home to work on things at home, and by being in charge of them the students would learn to be responsible with the things that they care about. The superintendent also believed that the Ipad was the best technology to help the students to improve their reading and math skills. One of the things that this small town was concerned about was the total price of this project. They would need to purchase about 325 Ipads, which would end up costing the school district an extra $200,000. Being a small town this is quite expensive for them, but the superintendent is hoping to get a grant to help them cover this extra cost.
Applications, and other tools that the iPad offers, such as these, are specifically for educational purposes.
The iPad also has applications for creating professional documents, and spreadsheets. These can help both students and teachers; the application called “iwork” comes with pages, which is similar to Microsoft Word. Pages is a word processor, that students can use to write papers, it is simple to use, has a variety of formatting tools, as well as an on screen keyboard. iwork also comes with Numbers, which works with spreadsheets, like Microsoft Excel.
The world is becoming more technological, and I think that many of these devices can be beneficial for educational purposes. The incorporation of the Ipad into classrooms might prove to be a beneficial factor in the future of young students. Since the world is progressing in technology, and changing in many different ways, the educational system has to be ready to change as well. So many more things are being done with technology, and I think that if this technology can help student’s progress and develop their skills better it is something that we should look into. On apple.com/education/ipad there is a cool video that shows some of the things that can be done with an ipad, and some of the ways that the ipad has helped students.
