1: The Great Awakening | Jonathan Edwards, a minister, led the Great Awakening. This was the awakening in the 1740s that referred to an excitement about religion that swept through the American colonies.
2: The Declaration of Independence | The final draft of the Declaration of independence was on July 4, 1776. | The Declaration of Independence justified our right to revolt against a government that no longer guaranteed our natural rights
3: The American Revolution War began in 1775. | American Strength: they received help from overseas. American Weakness: short on men. British Strength: the British forces were well supplied. British Weakness: they had a poor leadership. British almost won the war, but the Americans did.
4: Creating the Constitution | On September 17, 1787, the delegates declared the Constitution complete. During this time period they created The Three-Fifths Compromise was created which said that slaves counted as three- fifths of a “person”.
5: The Bill of Rights are the first ten amendments in the constitution. The promise of the Bill of Rights was key to getting the Constitution ratified by the states.
6: Harriet Tubman was an abolitionist & leader of the Underground Railroad. | The Underground Railroad was an informal organization that helped slaves hide in safe houses as they escaped to Canada. | Harriet Tubman
7: Federick Douglas was a run away slave that settled in Massachusetts . He was also writer of an abolitionist newspaper called The North Star.
8: William Lloyd Garrison favored the immediate abolition of all slaves. William published The Liberator newspaper and founded the American Anti-Slavery Society. | William Lloyd Garrison
9: This was the war between the North (Union) & the South (Confederate). This war is known as the bloodiest war. Ulysses S. Grant was the Union’s commander. The Confederate’s commander was Robert E. Lee. One of the causes for this war was slavery. | The Civil War
10: The K.K.K was a group that tried to scare blacks from their political power. They would threatened them & if they did not listen they would get murdered or tortured by them. That is when the 15th Amendment was created. | Reconstruction Era
11: The main reason for the Reconstruction was to bring back in the Southern states into the Union & to rebuild the South. At this time the 13th (Abolish Slavery), 14th (made African-Americans citizens & guaranteed equal protection of the laws to all citizens), 15th (the right to vote for black males) Amendment were created.
