3: How to Create Your eBook: 1. Go to Mixbook.com 2. Click "Signup" 3. Enter information (uncheck box to receive e-mails) 4. Click “Get Started” 5. Start creating your digital book 6. 6: Awareness: 1. Define the issue 2. Educate with information and media 3. Provide statistics that are easy to understand 4. Don't overwhelm with too much information (edit) 5. Too much information = people won't read it. 6. Use graphics and visuals 7. Use bold/highlighted/bulleted to make items stand out. 8. Information must be accurate and relevant to issue.
7: HIV/AIDS & Child Orphans | What is HIV/AIDS? AIDS is a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). What does it do? HIV damages your immune system and interferes with your body's ability to fight the organisms that cause disease. | Impact on Children | Source: UNICEF | 90% of HIV children live in sub-Saharan Africa. | 390,000 newly infected with HIV in 2010. | 3.4 million children living with HIV around the world. | 90% of children infected during pregnancy, child-birth, or breastfeeding.
8: Share a Story: 1. Share a real life situation or personal story 2. People need to make a connection to make it real 3. Be specific to the issue (homeless people, endangered spotted owl, amazon rain forest, etc.) 4. Utilize pictures to bring the issue to life 5. Help people relate to the issue 6. Avoid trying to make people feel guilty 7. Simply be authentic to what is happening
9: Meet Edward | Edwards is 6 years old and lives in Lilongwe, Malawi where there are over 650,000 AIDS orphans. He was living on the street when a local Non-Government Organization (NGO) found him. He now lives in a local house "Mtendere", which means "House of Peace", that shelters orphaned children. Edward is the face of HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. He represents what many children are born into, without any choice of his own. | New Hope Edwards now receives medication and education to have a bright future for himself and his country. We all know the importance of educating our children to improve the future! Helping these children will help stop this pandemic and provide hope for children like Edward around the world. With an ever increasing global community it is important to help Edward's generation rebuild.
