S: MRS. MAYNARD'S 2ND GRADE LITTLE RIVER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 2011-2012
FC: Mrs. Maynard 's 2nd Grade | Little River Elementary | 2011-2012
1: "A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart..." | The 2011-2012 school year at Little River Elementary was very busy for Mrs. Maynard's second grade class. The days were filled with lessons of math, reading, science, social studies and language arts. There were studies on citizenship, Native Americans, Ancient Egypt, China, the states and economics... there were writer's workshops, poems, mystery readers, spelling tests, cursive handwriting, books to summarize and wacky words to define... there were studies of fractions, money, regrouping to solve double and triple digit math problems, measurement, and geometry... there were science experiments to learn about habitats, weather, matter, magnets, and life cycles... and there were parties, games, books during snack, eagle eye dads, giggles, friendships, hugs from the teacher and countless more special moments that the children will remember for the rest of their lives... In August, twenty-four bright-eyed, excited and maybe even a little nervous children walked into your classroom for their first day of second grade. Over the last nine months, they have all outgrown shoes, lost teeth, and grown taller than most of their parents would like. But each day, as they walked into your classroom ready to learn, you were there guiding their minds to grow right along with their ever-changing bodies. It's hard to believe that in a few days, they will walk out of your classroom for the last time - a little taller, a lot smarter and as new third graders. Being a teacher is not easy. The days are full of energy, noise and constant reminding to raise a hand, sit down, listen or be quiet. It takes a special person to retain one's patience with twenty-four wiggling, talkative kids - but it takes a teacher to do it with a smile. We hope that this book is a reminder that your hard work is not only appreciated by the twenty-four children you teach each day but also greatly appreciated by the parents who see your smile and know that their children have been loved as well as taught. This book is given to you with love from the children and parents of Classroom 8. Thank you, Mrs. Maynard!!

16: Ancient Egypt | Papyrus Bead Making Hieroglyphics Pyramid | In social studies throughout the year, the class learned about various histories and cultures. In December, the children learned about Ancient Egypt. They finished the unit with a special day of centers where they assembled pyramids, played ancient Egyptian games, made papyrus and beads and wrote in hieroglyphics!
18: December 2011 | Winter Party | One of the children's favorite times of the year is winter vacation - so the class celebrated the last day of school before break with a Frosty the Snowman party! They played winter pictionary, artfully crafted a winter scene around their own pictures, and decorated snowflake cookies with lots of icing and sprinkles (and then ate them!!). The children really loved the game where they dressed each other up as snowmen! There was even a special visit to the classroom by Principal Hardcastle!
