FC: My Trip To America By Aiden Marcelis
This is a picture of my parents, my sister, and me. | I am really sad that I have to leave my home town of Urach, Germany. My parents said that we had to leave because we are Jewish and our country does not support that, but won't they not hurt us since we live in Germany?
 This means, "One trip short"
8-21-1939 This morning, we got on a boat to America and I am already beginning to regret this even more! This boat only gives us soup to eat, and the amount of space that we get in Steerage is disgusting! It was hard to adapt to the hard conditions on the boat. Though, I did bring more sheets to make the bed more warm.
8-22-1939 This morning,we got off of the boat that took us here. When we first arrived on the island, we had to drop off all of our luggage in the baggage room. I saw and met a lot of other children that were my age on the island. It was then that I realized that there was an amazing statue before my eyes, the statue of liberty!
8-22-1939 After I visited the baggage room, I had to be separated from the rest of my family to go up the steps to the great hall. | Next, I had to visit the medical exam room where they checked if I had any sicknesses. Luckily, I didn't get a cold like a lot of the other people that were on the boat that got colds!
I think that this place is actually a place of luck and hope!
Then, after the health examination, We met in the great hall to wait for our interview and legal inspection.
I am nervous to find out if I can stay in America!
8-23-1939 I am still waiting to have my interview to be able to stay in this country!
8-25-1939 We finally moved onto the legal inspections and they checked my records to see if I had a criminal record ( which I don't) and they said... I CAN STAY!!! That was an amazing moment in my life that I will never forget!
8-25-1939 After the legal inspections, we moved onto the money exchange and got lots of American money, I think we got somewhere around $50 in US currency!
8-25-1939 After we got our money, we went to the kissing post and began our new life in the land of hope. We had a very long and tedious journey through Ellis island, but now we are happy that we finally made it through.
 The End
