FC: The Negative Effects of Video Games on Children | By: Andrew Schwiebert 1st Period
Studies show that nine out of ten children play video games, and a lot of them play for hours every day. With video games becoming more popular with each day, kids need to learn to limit the time spent playing them. Why are video games such a big problem? It’s not the video games that are the problem, but the straight hours of game play that kids are engaging in. This prolonged time spent playing can cause problems such as aggression, social problems, obesity, and decrease in school performance.
Video games can cause children to become unhealthy. one out of seven preschool children are obese in America. Video games are a big contributer to this problem. A research is currently being done to prove the fact that kids eat more when they are playing video games. Other health problems include aggression,
anger problems, and even vision problems. When a kid is playing video games in the afternoon, he is doing that instead of going outside and playing with his friends. When they are done playing video games, it is night time; the only thing they can do on a school night is watch TV, or play video games. Which means that the average kid plays 3-10 hours of video games everyday; thats crazy.
Another problem video games have on children is bad school behavior. When a kid is at home playing video games, they are wasting time that they could use doing homework, or studying. Because aggression and short temper is a negative effect of gaming, kids can have low
self esteem, and get easily frustrated in school. Not every kid has this problem, but the kids who do, have been playing video games for five or more years. Kids who have these problems | struggle in school and have low grades. The ones who play multiple hours a day, usually "forget" to do there homework, or they just ignore it completely. There grades drop, and they are usually not going to get straight A's. With video games becoming more popular each day, kids need to learn to limit themselves, or there grades could suffer.
