FC: Madison McKinney | Have you ever thought about teaching?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to impact future generations of philosophers, inventors and leaders of the modern world? Think you're not right for the job? Think again.

...most teachers are between the ages of 25 and 50. ...most teachers only have a Bachelor's Degree. ...82% of teachers in the nation are Caucasian, 8% are African American, and 6% are Hispanic. | Did you know...

Although all of these qualities are important, teachers must have a particular mindset and character traits to do their job effectively. Here are a few traits that current teachers find important...

Do you love working with children? If so, teaching is the perfect profession for you! Not only do you form bonds with students, but with their parents and members of the community.

Do you ever find yourself looking for new challenges? Teaching is a profession that brings new impediments every day. It is also crucial to have a passion for teaching so that obstacles are enjoyed and embraced.

Most importantly, a teacher should welcome the idea that they are molding future generations. A good teacher can impact the world one child at a time.

Still not convinced? Here are a few quotes from teachers that love their job! | "Intrinsically, teachers benefit from simply the privilege of getting to share our knowledge with others; and to help others learn on a daily basis. The light bulb moments and the ah-has we get to see on students’ faces are such fantastic feelings to get out of simply doing our job each day." -6th grade Social Studies Teacher | "As I look at my twenty years of public school and college teaching, I believe I became a teacher initially because I thought I could do it better. I was the smart, terribly unsuccessful student who is the bane of many a high school teacher. In my day, rather than care they gently or, sometimes not so gently pushed you out the door. I have always wanted to reach my students before they get pushed out the door. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I do not , but I never regret the choice to become a teacher. About 10 years into my teaching career, I felt the need to move out of the classroom and move into administration...guess what...I hated it! Education is a business but teaching is a calling. If you are not called to it and see it as a "job" I feel sorry for you. I am back in the classroom and just as determined as ever. As much as I care about my subject matter,(English/Language Arts, I really care about students and helping them to see themselves as learners and capable of learning more. I push them everyday so they learn to push back and stay in school." -Blog from an Anonymous Teacher

Teaching isn't always the easiest job, but if you find yourself fitting the mold of a teacher, then give it a shot!
