FC: Domains, Kingdoms andVertabrate Group Mixbook Project By Andrew Tomenga

 Domains Archaea, Bacteria, Eukarya

Archaea | These organisms are one-celled, and are very similar to bacteria (and were once called bacteria), but they are genetically very different from bacteria. "Archaea" is Greek for "ancient." Members of this Domain live in environments that are very similar to the environments of ancient Earth.

Bacteria | These are one-celled organisms in this organisms that are prokaryotes. The cell is rather simple cell

Eukarya | All of the organisms in this Domain have cells with a nucleus. This includes almost all of the multi-cellular organisms on Planet Earth - the plants, animals, and fungi. It also includes the one-celled organisms that you are going to examine in the microscope

Kingdoms Monoran, protists, fungi, plants, animals

Monerans | Living organisms made of one cell that has no defined nucleus. They get the nutrients they need when the nutrients pass through their cell membrane. They reproduce by dividing in two. Many bacteria are members of this kingdom

Protists | living organisms usually made of one cell (but can be more), that have a defined nucleus. some of them get nutrients by eating other organisms, while others make food from the sun. they reproduce by splitting in two. many of the microscopic organisms you look at in todays lab are of this Kingdom

Fungi | Living organisms that usually are made of many cells (although some are one-celled). they get their nutrients by digesting and absorbing the surface they live on. they reproduce with spores.

Mushroom | Yeast | Mushroom | lichens | bread mold

Plants | living organisms that re made of many cells. they get their energy from the sun and nutrients from their surroundings. Many reproduce from seeds.

 grass | shrub | plant | tree | fern

Animals | Living organisms that are made of many cells. they get their nutrients and energy by eating other organisms. They reproduce by cells, which grow inside or outside of the mother;s body

tiger | MAN BEAR PIG | frog | octopus | starfish

Mammals | Almost all mammals give birth to live young, nurse young with milk, have hair or fur, are warm blooded

baby liger | zebra | dog | squirrel | polar bear

Birds | Lay fragile eggs, have feathers on skin, breathe with lungs, warm blooded. Although all birds have wings, not all birds fly.

 ostrich | penguin | chicken | do-do birds | duck

Reptiles | cold blooded animals, breathe with lungs, skin usually have scales or horny plates, lay leathery eggs on land

 turtle | lizard | tortoises | snake | gecko

Amphibians | Cold-blooded animals, skin is moist and without scales, lay soft, jelly-like eggs in water, young go through stages from larvae or tadpole stage to adult. Young breathe with gills, adults often breathe with lungs, some can breathe through skin.

 toad | frog | salamander | Newt

Fish | Cold blooded, live in water, most have gills (not lungs) for breathing, usually covered with scales
