FC: Au Revoir, Marie Antoinette!
1: The People of France didn't like Marie Antoinette or King Louis XVI much. The couple loved to spend and be luxurious. The people of France had started a revolution against them. This story is about how the Queen attempted to escape her palace when the people of France barged in.
2: The French Revolution took place from 1789-1799. The people of France were tired of Absolute Monarchy and wanted change. | During this time, Louis the 16th and his wife Marie Antoinette ruled France. They lived in the Palace of Versailles. | In Early October 1789, the Palace was stormed by the people of France. Marie Antoinette Escaped, latter to be tracked down and executed. This is her story, narrated by her.
3: This is my palace. It is decorated in layers of gold and fine detail. It may seem too big for some, but it's perfect for me. Besides, all the hidden doors are perfect shortcuts.
4: I was born in Austria. I was married to my husband to make matters between France & Austria better. I was very young when I got married and I loved the luxury my husband offered to me with this new lifestyle. | I love chandeliers, they are all over my palace. The people of my country don't have food to eat, but I have decorative beauties!
5: My room was located one level above ground. It was my room, and my room only. My husband had his own room. The way he got to my room was through a secret door. This secret door, if not known by others would have helped me escape the night our palace was invaded.
6: Here is my bedroom. The room appears to be wall papered everywhere with fine gold detail on the boarders.
7: Look closer. There was a hidden doorway that connected my room to my husband's room. | When the French invaded the Palace of Versailles, I tried escaping through the hidden doorway, but that would have only caused me to encounter the people trying to kill me.
8: Through this small window, me and her children escaped the Palace of Versailles. The window was very narrow and high off the ground, even though it was only one floor above ground level.
9: Eventually, the royal family was caught and taken back to Paris, where they were imprisoned. The King was executed first. Two out of the three children died shortly after imprisonment. On October 16th, 1793, I was executed. My only living child died due to tuberculosis leaving this royal family to die out. The lavishness of our family, the greed we endured caused us our lives and the end to a monarchy. Soon, Napoleon the first would crown himself Emperor. But, that's another story.
10: Designed for Students in a 7th grade Social Studies Classroom. Learning Objective: 1. The students will be able to explain how and why Marie Antoinette attempted to escaped. 2. The students will be able to take the lesson and research their own material. 3. The students will be able to create their own mini-lessons on a certain historical figure in a certain situation.
11: 4. Students will create a mixbook account. 5. Students will either upload or scan their pictures onto their mixbook. 6. Students will first present their lesson to their peer's in small groups. 7. Students will be expected to present a well researched topic to their class. Students are expected to have 8-10 page. They must use at least 2 different background pages. There should be at least one picture per page. | Procedure: After teaching the lesson: 1. Students will choose a name of a historical figure that was defeated. 2. Students will spend about a week researching the person and event. 3. Students will take either their own pictures, or draw pictures that have to do with their assignment. Students will also be able to use pictures from websites such as Creative commons. They must be able to give credit to the pictures they have used, where credit is deserved.
12: Assessment: The students will be graded in the following categories: Directions, Research, Creativity, Presentation To obtain full points which is 15 points in each category: Directions: Follows directions completely Research: Researched topic in depth Creativity: Use many different backgrounds & media formats Presentation: Speaks clearly, takes the assignment seriously, has good nonverbal communication
13: To obtain 10 points in each category: Directions: Misses 1 key direction Research: Research is general Creativity: Uses only pictures and texts Presentation: Speaks clearly, uses hardly any nonverbal communication skills To obtain 5 points in each category: Directions: Misses 3 directions Research: Hardly any research Creativity: Has a very dull presentation Presentation: Soft voice, hardly any nonverbal communication
14: To obtain 0 points in each category: Directions: Doesn't follow directions Research: Research is taken from wikipedia, or a like sources Creativity: No creativity, plain pages, no pictures Presentation: Speaks softly, no nonverbal communication, doesn't take the assignment seriously The project will be due April 15th, two weeks after it has been assigned.
