S: 2012 Food Group Cookbook
FC: Using the Five Food Groups | Miss. Ruiz's 4th Grade Class Cookbook
1: Miss. Ruiz's 4th grade nutrition class learned about the five main food groups this week. The students were put into five groups, one for each food group, and created recipes. At the end, the class combined their recipes and made a class cookbook. ENJOY!
2: Ingredients 1 cup of light vanilla yogurt 1-1/2 cups of fat-free milk 1 cup of frozen strawberries | Directions -In a large blender, blend all ingredients until smooth. **Substitute any flavor yogurt you'd like! | Strawberry Yogurt Smoothies | The Dairy Group | Timmy, Mary & Bobby

5: Super Veggie Salad | Ingredients 1 cup of romaine lettuce, chopped 1 cup of fresh baby spinach 2/3 cup of sliced fresh mushrooms 2/3 cup of grape tomatoes 1/2 cup of sliced cucumber 1 small can of sliced ripe olives 1 tablespoon of grated Parmesan cheese 1 bottle of Italian salad dressing | Directions -In a large bowl, mix all ingredients well. -Pour desired amount of dressing on top. | The Vegetable Group | Kate, Crystal, & Joe
6: Fruit Group | Ingredients 1 pre-made graham cracker crust 1 cup of whipped cream 1/2 cup of light cream cheese 3 1/2 cups assorted fresh fruit | Directions -Spread the cream cheese on the bottom of the crust. -Then, layer your fruits on top of the cream cheese. -Garish with whipped cream. | Very Berry Fruit Pie | Michael Sally & Shawn

8: Mini Pizza Cups | Ingredients 1 box of refrigerated pizza dough 1 jar of tomato sauce 1-1/2 cups of skim milk shredded cheese 1 package of pepperoni Cupcake Tin | Directions -Preheat the oven to 425 degrees (ask an adult first!) -Cut dough into circles and push into the cupcake molds -Sprinkle cheese into molds on top of dough -Top with pepperoni -Bake in the oven for 15 minutes **Let cool before eating! | The Protein Group | Maggie, Jason, & Sarah

10: Ingredients 1 large loaf of whole grain bread 2 tablespoons of margarine Italian seasoning | Directions -Preheat over to 425 degrees (ask an adult first!) -Cut the loaf of bread long ways, to make two open halves. -Spread the margarine over both sides, covering evenly. -Sprinkle as little or as much seasoning you'd like. -Toast in the oven on a baking sheet until golden brown. | Toasted Whole Grain Garlic Bread | The Grain Group | Kathy, Lucy, & Suzanne
