FC: SCRATCH TRUCK 2011-2012
It was Memorial Day Weekend 2010 and we were all having fun out by the pool with friends and family. Fred, Matt and the guys were golfing... little did Matt know after that fun weekend that he would go to work on Tuesday only to be told he had lost his job! Matt didn't seem too worried, so we as parents didn't worry as much either, until month after month of job hunting seemed to produce no offers. So Matt set another plan into motion. He wanted to do what he had always loved to do, which was cook. He decided he would purchase a truck and open his own business. He wrote his business plan, got approved for a small business loan and then started hunting for a truck to purchase! It was a huge leap of faith.... but with the support of Darcie and family he took that leap! Matt had lost his job and LAUNCHED HIS DREAM! Through out this book are all the wonderful accomplishments and accolades he has received in just one year of business! Matt we hope you enjoy your look back on your first year! We are very proud of you! | MATT'S FUTURE OFFICE
ABOUT: I have been cooking all my life. I started watching my Grandma, Pop Pop and Mom cook as a kid, I was fortunate that they had the patience and encouraged me in the kitchen. I worked in kitchens throughout school and was accepted to culinary school out of high school. Instead of pursuing a career as a chef, I went on to study management. I continued to be passionate about food and would consider myself a foodie. I knew one day I would open a restaurant, it was more not of if....but when! The idea of Scratch was born after a business trip to Portland, OR. I was amazed at the food scene that was there and the crazy food being made in trucks/trailers/carts. I would daydream about finding a way to bring what I saw smelled and tasted in Portland to Indianapolis, 3 months after my Portland trip, I was laid off from my job. I can remember as I was being told I no longer had a job, I was very calm and a strange smile came over my face. Here I was, at the intersection of preparation and opportunity. One door was closing, but another one was opening. Since then I have slid all my chips in the middle and present to you SCRATCH.
Scratchtruck / Indy's Newest Street Food May 26, 2011 In case you haven't heard, Indy has a new food truck in town. Last night, I attended the Scratchtruck launch party at FLAT12 Bierwerks. The Scratchtruck is a mobile kitchen that serves modern comfort food. Sure, you can get a burger anywhere, but have you ever had one with bacon marmalade, arugula, gorgonzola cheese, served out of an awesome red truck? Probably not. I suggest you visit the Scratchtruck as soon as possible and try one. Oh, and did I mention that the Scratchtruck will be at different locations around Indy each day? Where else can you get gourmet, modern comfort food that comes to you? And it's reasonably priced, too! Meet Matt! He's the owner of the Scratchtruck. You can thank him for all of the deliciousness! | This is an article that appeared on a blog, published by Cambrie Anderson Photography
A year ago, Matt was laid off from his corporate job. It was then that he realized he wanted to pursue his dream and passion. When one door closes, another one opens. . . . | The Spicy Chicken Cone, is made with hand breaded, spicy chicken tenders, accompanied with mango-jalapeno coleslaw and ancho chile aioli, served in a flour tortilla cone. | The Scratch Burger is a 1/3 lb custom ground burger topped with bacon marmalade, arugula and gorgonzola cheese, served on a fresh, toasted soft roll.

And as the spring and summer continued this was the familiar scene . . . always long lines at SCRATCHTRUCK but no one seem to mind the wait!
A few faces along the way!
This is one of the many times Matt was featured in the Indianapolis Monthly Magazine! They chose him as their "Favorite Food Truck" for 2011
WHAT A WAY TO END 2011
. . . And so 2012 starts just like 2011 ended... fast and furious! Indianapolis is hosting the SuperBowl . . . the weather is in the 60's, unheard of for February in Indiana . . . the zip line is ready. . . the food trucks are lined up and most importantly "The New York GIANT'S" are playing the hated New England Patriots! Oh, wait did I mention New York "GIANTS" is Matt's favorite team!. . . .. . Because Matt is 'Mayor' of the Food Trucks, he was responsible for setting up the schedules for all of the trucks. This was a large task but since he didn't have tickets sitting on the 50 yard line watching the game, I'm sure he was exactly where he wanted to be, among all the crowd serving up delicious food!
And as the Super Bowl excitement comes to and end . . . Matt scored another huge touchdown, he once again made an appearance in the Indianapolis Monthly! Matt's poutine fries received a thumbs up as one of their favorites!
Food Blogs appearing online and in the newspapers!
A big deal for Indy was having "Eat St" come to town to film it's show! Once again Matt and Darcie were not only featured in the Indianapolis Newspaper but also interviewed by WTHR TV about being on the show. The Indianapolis episode will air in May 2013 when the new season starts!
Another fun event Matt was asked to participate in was a "ThrowDown" competition at the Indianapolis State Fair sponsored by IU Health! Matt was competing with "The Spice Box" They were judged by audience members. Matt's dish won and he received the Golden Colander Trophy! | AUGUST 12, 2012
 AUGUST 19, 2012
Kitchen Hero email sent to all that rent from Indy's Kitchen. What an honor and sense of pride to have these words written about you!
As 2012 comes to an end one more accomplishment has been given to Matt and ScratchTruck, his truck was ranked #67 of the Best Food Trucks in America for 2012! Not bad for a year and a half in the business!
Matt, We hope you have enjoyed looking back over your first busy year! You have a lot to be proud of and Fred and I want you to know how proud we are of you! Love, Dad & Mom Conrad
