1: There was once a girl named Gloria. She and her family lived in Mexico. Habia una vez una nina llamada Gloria. Ella y su familia vivia en Mexico.

2: One day, Gloria's parents told her they were all moving to America. Gloria was upset. She did not want to move away. Un dia,los padres de Gloria le dijeron que eran todos de mudarse a Estados Unidos. Gloria estaba molesto. Que no queria alejarse.

3: Gloria and her family moved to America, and she did not feel welcomed, especially at school. | Gloria y su familia se mudo a Estados Unidos y que no se sentia bienvenido, especialmente en la escuela.

4: Many kids at school made fun of her, and she was ready to quit and move back to Mexico. Muchos ninos en la escuela se burlaban de ella, y ella estaba lista para salir y regresar a Mexico.

5: Then one day, Gloria met a girl named Karen. She was friendly and kind, and Gloria felt like she had found a friend. Entonces, un dia, Gloria conocio a una chica llamada Karen. Ella era amigable y amable, y Gloria se sentia como si habia encontrado un amigo.

6: Karen was like Gloria in many ways. She had moved to the United States from Italy a few years earlier, and felt left out in school. She knew she had to help Gloria feel welcome. Karen era como Gloria de muchas maneras. Ella se mudo a los Estados Unidos desde Italia unos anos antes, y se sintio excluido en la escuela. Sabia que tenia que ayudar a Gloria se sientan bienvenidos.

7: "Hi Gloria, my name is Karen. I see you are new to school, would you like to sit by me?" Gloria replied, "Yes, that would be great." "Hola Gloria, mi nombre es Karen. Veo que son nuevos en la escuela, le gustaria sentarse junto a mi?" Gloria respondio, "Si, eso seria genial."

8: As the weeks passed, Gloria and Karen became best friends. They spent time together after school as well. Como que pasaban las semanas, Gloria y Karen se hicieron buenos amigos. Pasaron tiempo juntos despues de la escuela tambien.

9: Their teacher, Mrs. Warner, saw how close they had become and praised Karen for making Gloria her friend when nobody else had. Su maestra, la senora Warner, vio lo cerca que se habia convertido y elogio a Karen para hacer de su amiga Gloria cuando nadie mas se habia.

10: Gloria and Karen entered middle school a year later, and although school became harder, they became closer and were best friends. Gloria y Karen entro en la escuela media un ano despues. Aunque la escuela se hizo mas dificil, se hicieron mas y los mejores amigos.

11: Years passed, and Gloria and Karen were now finishing their senior year of high school. Gloria was named valedictorian of her class, and had to prepare a speech. Pasaron los anos, y Gloria y Karen estaban terminando su ultimo ano de escuela secundaria. Gloria fue nombrado mejor alumna de su clase, y tenia que preparar un discurso.

13: Gloria was very nervous. She did not know what to write for her speech. She had learned so much since moving to America. Gloria estaba muy nerviosa. Ella no sabia que escribir para su discurso. Ella habia aprendido mucho desde que se mudo a Estados Unidos.

14: Suddenly, Gloria knew exactly what she would write about. She realized that school is not just about homework and reading. It's about acknowledging the people that make you feel special and welcomed, especially when you are ready to quit. De repente, Gloria sabia exactamente o que iba a escribir acerca de. Se dio cuenta de que la escuela no es solo acerca de la tarea y la lectura. Se trata de reconocer a las personas que te hacen sentir especial y agradable, especialmente cuando usted esta listo para dejar de fumar.

16: "There has been one friend in my life who has been a rock for me," Gloria said. "When I moved here, everyone made fun of me, but Karen accepted me for who I was. She made me feel like I was finally home where I belong, and I wanted to thank her for everything." | "No ha sido una amiga en mi vida que ha sido una roca para mi," dijo Gloria. 17: Karen was so moved by what she heard. After the ceremony, she gave Gloria a big hug and thanked her. Karen said, "I know we will be friends forever!" Karen se sintio tan conmovido por lo que oia.
