1: Introduction Hello to all Parents old and new I am Jocelyn Richardson the new principal at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School. As a new principal I want to start off this school year on a good, firm note. With that being said I have already began a detailed description of the expectations at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School. These expectations will be required by all students; with no exceptions! The requirements (which you are about to read) will be detailed and firmly executed. | Table of Contents Chapter 1: 10 Norms Chapter 2: Identifying Deviances Chapter 3:Re-Socialization (consequences)
2: Chapter 1: Norms Expected within the Classroom 1. Students will be expected to display good sportsmanship and respect to staff and peers. 2. Students will be expected to show comprehension of material learned in class, by completing all classwork and homework confidently. 3.Students will be expected to execute all classroom expectations of all of their teachers, and comply to all rules. 4. Students will be expected to participate in all classroom activities willingly and efficiently. 5. Students will be expected to be on time to all of their classes prepared and ready to learn.
3: Norms Expected On School Campus 1.Students are expected to firmly execute dress code policy at all times during school instructional hours. 2. Students are expected to not treat our school like a trash can. Students should willing clean up after themselves, and not liter. 3. Students are expected to put away all electronic devices while on campus. 4.Students are expected to treat all staff and peers with complete respect. (No Bullying) 5. Students are expected to enjoy their school.
4: Chapter 2 Minor Deviant Behavior : (Being the Class Clown) Social Function: Students act foolish in class to diffuse tension from feeling stupid. They also believe they have overall power of their peers attention , so they use that to make everyones else follow their lead. Which could also go along with Unifying the group because the students allows his/her comical powers to also unify the class. Theory: According to the Conflict Theory , being the class clown make you superior in a way. Which means there is constantly a competition between them and the teacher for their peers attention. (Being a Procrastinator) Social Function: Students procrastinate to diffuse tension within themselves. The student may feel like an outsider from the rest of class because he/she don't understand material, or to stressed to even care. This also clarifies norms by reminding students their purpose for coming to class by giving interims. Theory: According to the Labeling Theory,being a procrastinator makes students look just as bad as they feel. After waisting so much time in class ,they are continuously reminded of their deviant behaviors by receiving report cards.
5: Major Deviant Behavior: (Fighting in School) Social function: Students who choose violence as their release of emotion are diffusing tension amongst their peers. They don't want to feel uncomfortable , and don't want to look weak in front of their peers so they result to fighting. Theory: According to the Strain Theory Ritualism is the number one act in this situation. Students have rejected the goal to not result to violence and have accepted the normal way to resolve their problems. (Skipping School) Social Function: Students choose to skip school to not only diffuse tension, but to also to unify the group. They don't want to feel obligated to do something that doesn't interest them, and they also want to be accepted by their peers. Theory: According to the Strain Theory Conformity is the logic to their madness. Students believe that if their peers are doing it they should too. They see "everyone else" doing it so they think why not.
6: Chapter 3: Re-Socialization (Being Class Clown) The consequence for students who decide to participate in this deviant behavior will be an automatic one hour detention for a whole week. In detention the student will have to 3 a paged essay double spaced on how they were socialized to commit such deviant behavior. (Being A Procrastinator) The Consequence for students who seem to be socialized to believe they are not smart. Will be a weekly conference with our new teacher Ms.Sunhill for 30 minutes after school. Every Monday the student will report to Ms.Sunhills classroom for an academic reflection, and for any help needed.
7: (Fighting In School) The consequence for students who have no other alternative for solving their anger problems. Will be to help the janitors clean the school building for an hour. Everyday after school for an hour ,and for two whole weeks. All participants will be required complete this task. (Skipping School) The consequence for students who are socialized to believe that lowering their intelligent by skipping school. Will be required to stay an extra hour after school for one whole week. During that hour they will be able to make up in missed work ,without teachers assistance. If students fail to complete these requirements federal actions will be implemented.
