FC: Schools Within the Context of the Community Fall 2010
You have in your hands the power to influence and mold a student's mind. You have within you the capacity to instill in the child a love for learning, to keep an open mind and to keep questioning. You have the ability to promote confidence, stir thinking, and awaken dreams.

This semester has been one for the memory books, and I think everyone would agree. Coming into this semester I had no idea what to expect and I was so nervous! But I quickly realized I had four caring, supportive, and intelligent professors leading me on my way. Those professors quickly became the most important people in my life and influenced my path of becoming a teacher more than any other had. I feel so privileged that I was a part of this opportunity to work with the students, learn all of the things from the classroom and experiences you have provided, and from examples you have shown (even without knowing it). I will never forget your impact on my professional and personal life. All because you believed in me, pushed me, and have been truthful (even when I didn't want to hear it). Love, Caroline Farmer
"The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called "truth"." Dan Rather
Who knew a girl from Cincinnati could feel so at home in Indiana? I never imagined I would learn so much in so little time. In these last few months I have developed a website, recieved my first apple, touched the lives of many children and made bonds that will never fade. I feel so fortunate to have had this experience under your guidance. Best of luck to each of you! Kathy Goffena | "I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit." John Steinbeck
This semester has been one of the greatest experiences ever. My eyes have been opened to so many great things. You have been such wonderful mentors words can't even explain. There have been so many great words sent my way and I want to thank you for everything. You have been the best cheerleaders for my success. I don't think I would have gotten so much from this without your guidance and help. This semester will make me a better teacher and an all around better person. I feel like my life has been changed forever. Thank you so much. Holly Burton "A good teacher is like a candle; it consumes itself to light the way for others."
I can never thank you enough for the experience I've been given this semester. I have learned so much about my self, my abilities, and the teacher I hope I can be. This was an incredible experience, one that challenged me to dig deeper and find out what I really wanted out of this semester; but not without a little help from all of you :]. I also cannot explain to you how grateful I am for the support and guidance everyone has provided during this experience. It was not the easiest thing in my practicum placement the first time around and everyone worked so hard to make sure this semester could be turned around for me, it ended up being a great semester. Mrs. Bridges was a wonderful woman and very caring about my success. I also went through the most difficult thing I've ever experienced in my life, and I want to thank each and every one of you for allowing me the time I needed to deal with such a loss and the support to know that I was okay when things were rough. I hope to see you soon and I wish you much luck with the next group of lucky students that get to experience the Students Within the Context of the Community Semester. With love and gratitude, Courtney Dearduff
"I can no other answer make, but, thanks, and thanks" William Shakespeare | Thank you all for your support and care this semester. I feel honored to have worked with you all. I am grateful and humbled by all of the work you have done for us this semester. Thanks so so much. Megan Evanoff
Mind is the master power that molds and makes, And we are mind and evermore we take, The tool of thought, and shaping what we will, Bring forth a thousand joys, and a thousand ills, We think in secret, and it comes to pass- Our world is but our looking glass. James Allen
Thank you for all of your support and encouragement throughout the entire semester. There was never a single moment when I felt alone. Each of you were there to guide us in the direction that we most needed. Your confidence in each of us strengthened us to believe in each other and in ourselves. Each of you were destined to be amazing teachers, and believe me when I say, you have done just that! This semester has taught me more about myself as a teacher and exactly the kind of teacher I one day wish to become. Thanks to each of you, I know I can and will succeed though my looking glass may be foggy. Jennifer Fowler
Thank you for a very informative and interesting semester! Bonnie Leckron
"We must become the change we want to see." Ghandi | Thank you so much for everything you have done this semester. I really enjoyed being in the classroom and having the opportunity to work with the students. I learned so much more this semester than I have the past couple years at Ball State. There is so much that I have seen and learned that I can't wait to implement into my own classroom one day. This experience has truly changed the way I view learning, and teaching. I really appreciate everything you have done for us. I will never forget this experience and I know it has changed how I will teach in my classroom. Kayla Bradley
"Tell me and I'll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Involve me, and I'll understand." | Thank you so much for everything you have done for me this semester. I have gotten so much more out of this semester than I ever could have imagined. I have created so many special friendships with so many people in this community that are so valuable to me. There is no way I could have ever learned as much as I did this semester without being allowed to be involved in the community. This is definitely something I'm never going to forget. Thank you for everything, Adrienne Hall
I can't even begin to put in words how much this experience has meant to me. I have learned more in this semester than I have my entire college career. It was so surprising to me how a group of college students could bond so quickly and create long-lasting relationships. I want to thank all of you for everything you put into this program and all of the hard work that was required in making this all possible. Olivia Horton
It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving. Mother Teresa | Thank you for doing so much for us this semester. I made so many friends and have grown as a professional. Thank you again! Bridget
Thank you for an amazing opportunity to truly discover the meaning of schools within the context of the community. I learned so many valuable lessons from each and every one of you. I will treasure this experience for the rest of my career and I know I will reflect on my time at Buley and the Whitely Community, daily. Maddie Denton
Imagination is more important than knowledge. | Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. | I can now imagine myself as a teacher and that is something I owe to each of you. Never before did I feel fit for this wonderful job and now I cannot picture myself doing anything else. Thank you for teaching me that knowledge is limited, and that I can grab my students and circle the world with them. You will have a lasting impact on my life and anyone who crosses paths with you is extremely fortunate. Katie McNutt
Wow, what can I say? No famous quotes, no poems, no words of wisdom come to mind to describe my time with you all this semester. So, again, what can I say? The only thing that comes to mind is a simple "Thank You". Before this semester I believed that I wanted to be a teacher, now I KNOW that is EXACTLY what I am supposed to be. I want to thank you for all the time and effort you have invested into this immersive semester. It has definitely changed my outlook on the relationship between classroom and community. I truly understand the importance of investigating student's lives OUTSIDE of the classroom. But more importantly, it has changed me. I am now looking at myself, and seeing how I can personally change my own community for the better. You are leaders by example and that will resonate much longer than words written in any textbook or journal. Thank you for this experience, it will last a lifetime. Tiffany Turner
"You learn something new everyday if you pay attention"
I have learned something everyday this semester and have made so many memories! Jon taught me to always question and "dig deeper" to find the true, or hidden, meaning of things. Winnie taught me how to think like a child and understand how they are developing. Eva taught me not to take things too seriously and that no matter how bad things may seem there is always something positive somewhere in the situation. Pat taught me that things are not always what they seem, and that there is a hidden basketball player in everyone :] I'm not sure there will ever be a way to describe how much I have loved this semester. I cannot thank you enough for this experience. It has changed my life! Kelly Spieth
"Ideal teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, inviting them to build bridges of their own." | Thank you for showing me the way this semester. I will be a better teacher because of you. Educationally yours, Erin Grundy
