Thanks to your generosity, children enter school ready to learn.
The Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) encourages healthy development through facilitated play, reading and enriched conversation.
There are more than 40 years of success behind this family-friendly model. Your generosity helps to continue that success.
The PCHP site at Jewish Family and Children's Service of Minneapolis began in 2006 with 18 families. Today, more than 1,600 people have been served by the program.
Home Visitors provide two visits per week over the course of two years with families who have 2- and 3-year-old children. | PCHP serves families living in suburban Hennepin County. Many participating parents have not graduated from high school. Most of them do not have access to center-based early childhood or parenting programs. Locally, 50% of visits are conducted in Spanish or Somali.
Parents realize their role as their child’s first and most important teacher.
There are positive results for parents and children. Program graduates out-perform non-program children before and after kindergarten, and graduate from high school at a 20% higher rate than their demographic peers. Federally-funded research shows that years after completing PCHP, parent-child verbal interaction remained 50% higher than in similarly-situated families who did not participate in PCHP.
Sometimes the first book a child owns comes from PCHP.
Imagine the impact: You've given a child a library and beautiful, educational toys.
"I have recommended this to others; my child looks for the visitor out the window. I have learned so many things I would not have known about." "My child is expressing and communicating more. He sits for longer times to play." | Parents rave about PCHP...
"I have five children, so it is nice to have the time with one, and to have someone guiding me." "My child memorized a book and reads it to her grandparents and cousins!"
The staff, parents and children of the Parent-Child Home Program THANK YOU for helping us succeed!
