My topic is Eocene Epoch | Table of Contents | Time page 2 What was occurring page 4 Plants page 6 Animals page 9 Climate page 10
The Eocene Epoch occurred from 56 million to 34 million years ago.
What was occurring? | The Eocene epoch, it lasted from 56 to 34 million years ago. The word Eocene comes from a Greek word which means dawn or something new that appeared during the epoch, it was called Eocene period
Plants | There were lots of plants that lived during the Eocene. Scientists have found many plant fossils now extinct. Some of the fossils that were found were Flosisantia and Ecomommia. Flosisantia is a flowering plant of western North America known as compression fossils. Eucommia is an extinct species of flowering plant which is known for its fossil fruit. Other plants evolved in the early Eocene and were not fully grown until later on. For example Acerhillsi is know from one singl Specimen which evolved in early Eocene. And Pteidosper is an extinct plant that was last grown in the Eocene. As I said there were a lot of plants that helped make that period a better place.
Animals | The Eocene epoch was known as the period of expansion, there were many animals such as fish, insects, birds, and reptiles. It's called the age of expansion because everything changed. The animals adapted to a new, colder environment. They adapted to a new climate. The fish adapted to colder water over time. Some of the fish that lived were called archaues, Eothynus, Mene, Eosalmo, and Eoluarus. There were spectacular birds that formed their beaks like no other they were so rare. But the birds that lived were neanis, Kaika, Dasornis, and Foro. All together, the Eocene was known for its expansion which got lots of new animals to, live they ate different insects they mostly hunted weak insects, no one knew what they looked like.
Climate | During the Eocene, the climate was very harsh which made it very hard for any organism to live. In the Paleacene-Eocene the climate began, the Eocene period became much colder.. Before 56 million years ago the weather in the Eocene period was very cold, and the poles were hardly warm. Before the climate got colder, there wasn't ice in the poles, which made it easier for the organisms to live and survive. During the Eocene period the poles got covered in ice and snow. In conclusion the climate was very cold.
Summary | The Eocene was very special period. During the Eocene the amount of animals expanded. Fish, insects, birds, and reptiles were most common animals in the Eocene although. Although There were lots of types of animals in each category. As I said scientists only found the plant fossils after along period of time, even though they were searching for along time. All of those plants were either extinct or were still not found. Finally the climate was very harsh and so it was difficult for any organism to live. It started to become colder and colder until the poles were completely covered in ice so that makes the 21st century so interesting and special.
