3: "There is no love sincerer than the love of food." ~George Bernard Shaw | Giant Ginger Cookies Mix: 1 1/2 cups shortening 2 cups granulated sugar 2 eggs 1/2 cup molasses 1/4 tsp salt 4 tsp ginger 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp cloves Sift: 4 1/2 cup flour 2 tsp baking soda Combine with wooden spoon, Do not over bake! Bake at 350 for 12-14 min

4: Divinity Fudge 2 cups granulated sugar 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup syrup 1 cup walnut meat 2 egg whites `1 tsp vanilla extract Combine sugar, water, corn syrup in sauce pan over low heat; stir till sugar is dissolved; cook to 265 degrees or hard ball stage. Beat egg whites till stiff. Pour syrup gradually; beat at high (8) add vanilla and beat till stiff. Drop or put in greased pan to cut unto squares.

5: Pudding Family serving will fill 16 cream puffs 1 quart milk 1 cup sugar 4 tbsp cornstarch 3 eggs vanilla Cook till thick | Taffy 2 cup sugar scant 1/4 cup vinegar fill till 1/2 cup with water 2 tbsp. butter 1 tsp. vanilla Cook till hardball in water Butter rim of pan, start stirring until starts boiling, then do not stir. Pour on outer platter. | Cream Puffs Shells Boil in sauce pan: 1 cup water 1/2 cup butter Stir in all at once, 1 cup flour add 2 eggs than add 2 more eggs Bake 35 minutes at 400 on ungreased baking sheet. Fill with pudding. | Hard Tack Candy 2 c sugar 1 1/2 water 1 c Karo coloring and flavoring cook till hard crack

6: Frosted Pineapple Cookies | 1 can (8 oz) crushed pineapple 1/2 c shortening 1 c packed brown sugar 1 egg 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 c all purpose flour 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt 1 1/2 c confectioners sugar Drain pineapple, reserving 3 Tbsp juice. Set pineapple aside; set juice aside for frosting. In a mixing bowl, cream shortening and brown sugar. Add egg; mix well. Add pineapple and vanilla; mix well. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Drop by tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 325 for 17-20 minutes or until golden. Remove to wire racks to cool. For frosting, in a small bowl, combine confectioners sugar with enough of the reserved pineapple juice to achieve a smooth spreading consistency. Frost cooled cookies. Makes 3 dozen

7: Butter Brickle Cake Sift: 2 c. flour 1 1/4 c sugar 3 1/4 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt Add: 1/2 c shortening 3/4 c plus 2 Tbsp milk 1 1/2 tsp vanilla Beat: two min or 150 hand strokes Add: 3 egg whites and fold Bake at 375 in 9 by 13 pan | Mayonnaise Chocolate Cake 1 1/4 c sugar 1 c salad dressing 1 Tbsp cocoa 1 tsp salt 2 tsp soda 2 c flour 1 tsp vanilla

8: Part One Soft ball 1 c sugar 1/2 c water | Part Two 2 c sugar 1 c Karo 1 c water | Put part one and two on the stove at the same time in different pans. When part one has cooked to the soft ball stage add slowly to eggs whites (2) beating constantly: beat till part two reaches hard ball stage, add to first mixture continue to beat till it6 losses its gloss. Add nuts or fruit or other variations. 3 1/2 lbs chocolate for dipping 1 batch peanut butter eggs 3 batches of divinity | Easter Eggs

9: Peanut Butter Easter Eggs 1 c oleo 2 1/2 c powder sugar 1 lb crushed graham crackers 2 c peanut butter Melt: 2-12 oz bags of choc. chips and 1/2 bar paraffin (use double broiler) Note: keep water hot in double broiler all the time you are dipping the eggs because chocolate will coat better. After dipping eggs put them on wax paper on cookie sheet and put in refrigerator to cool.

10: Sugar Cookies 2 c sugar 1 c shortening 2 eggs 1/2 tsp salt 1 c sweet milk 1 tsp soda 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp nutmeg or vanilla Cream sugar and shortening. Add other ingredients as given: add flour to make soft dough. roll- cut- and bake at 375. (flour: app. 4 1/2 cups) | Jane's Ice Cream 6 eggs well beaten 2 Tbsp cornstarch 2 1/2 c sugar 1 qt milk, evaporated milk works well cook until thickened add: 1 oz vanilla and 1 qt milk

11: Best Doughnuts Ever Scald: 1 qt milk and 1 cup lard Let cool. Beat: 6 or 8 eggs, 2 tsp salt, 2 Tbsp sugar Dissolve: 1 strip yeast (3) Work: 12 cups flour (will be sticky) Let rise till double in volume, knead and let rise again. Roll on floured board and cut. Let rise till quite fat and fry. Glaze 1/2 lbs powdered sugar 1 Tbsp cornstarch 1 Tbsp butter 1 Tbsp vanilla 2 Tbsp cream or milk add water to dipping consistency.

12: French Bread 2 Tbsp oil 3 c warm water 2 Tbsp sugar 1 Tbsp salt 1 cake yeast (1 1/2 Tbsp) 8 cups flour work: let rise Bake 350 for 40 minutes Makes 4 loaves | Nut Bread 1 c sugar 2 eggs 2 c milk 1/2 tsp salt 4 c flour 4 tsp baking powder 1 tsp nutmeg 1 tsp vanilla 1 c nuts

13: Foolproof Pie crust 3 c flour 5 Tbsp water 1 tsp salt 1 Tbsp vinegar 1 c lard or shortening 1 Tbsp sugar 1 egg Combine the flour and salt; cut in shortening. In a small bowl, beat the egg; add water, vinegar and sugar and mix well. Add to flour mixture. Gather into ball and divide into 4 portions. Roll 2 inches bigger than pie pan. Makes 2 (9 inch) crust pies. | Old Molasses Cookies Mix: 1 c sugar 2 tsp cinnamon 1 c lard 1 tsp nutmeg 2 eggs 3 tsp ginger 1 tsp salt 1 tsp baking powder Mix: 1 c molasses 2 tsp baking soda 1/2 c boiling water add flour to stiffen, roll and cut

14: Good Pie Crust 3 c flour 2 tsp salt 1 c crisco 1 tsp baking powder Mix then add 1/2 cup of water. Makes 1 large double pie and 1 single pie.

15: Now Relish 3 qts cabbage 1 qt onions 1 qt peppers 1 qt carrots 1 qt celery 1 pint vinegar 3 c sugar 1 Tbsp salt 1 Tbsp mustard seed 1 Tbsp celery seed 1 Tbsp tumeric

16: Cat | Catsup 1 bushel tomatoes 4 onions scant cup salt 3 1/2 c vinegar 8 c sugar 6 Tbsp celery seed 3 Tbsp mustard seed 2 Tbsp cinnamon 3 Tbsp paprika 1/2 Tbsp cayenne pepper 1 c cornstarch

17: Lime Pickles 7 lbs cucumbers (sliced 1/2 in thick) 2 gal cold water, 2 c lime soak for 24 hrs. Rinse well and cover with cold water soak 3 hrs. Drain well. Cover with syrup as follows: 2 qts vinegar 4 1/2 lbs sugar (9 cups) 1 tsp celery seed 1 tsp cloves 1 tsp pickling spice 3 Tbsp salt Let stand over night, in morning boil until transparent. Seal while hot. | Green Tomato Indian Relish Grind: 3 qts tomatoes 1 qt onions 6 qt peppers Pour: boiling water, let stand five min. Syrup: 1 qt vinegar 3 lbs white sugar 1/4 tsp salt 3 tsp celery seed 3 tsp mustard 2 tsp tumeric powder Boil 3 min and seal

18: Corn Salad 2 doz ears corn 2 heads cabbage 2 red peppers 2 green peppers 2 celery 3 Tbsp salt 1/2 gal Vinegar diluted to taste 2 c sugar 1 Tbsp dry mustard 1 tsp tumeric Boil 2 hrs or until tender Can while hot

19: Homemade Noodles Combine 1 beaten egg, 2 Tbsp milk, 1/2 tsp salt. Add enough sifted all purpose flour to make stiff dough, about 1 cup. Roll very thin on floured surface; let stand 20 minutes. Roll up loosely; slice 1/4 inch wide; unroll spread out and let dry 2 hours. Drop into boiling soup or boiling, salted water and cook uncovered about 10 min. Makes 3 cups.

20: Skunk Odor Away! Combine: 1 gallon water, 4 ounces 97% hydrogen peroxide, 1 cup Baking soda, 2 tablespoon liquid soap Wash the animal throughly with mixture; rinse with clear water !!Be careful to keep mixture from your pets eyes. !! !!Don't let your pet lick the mixture!!

21: Smoked Pork Brine 80 lbs meat and 4 hams 3 qt butchers salt 1 1/2 brown sugar (dark) 4 oz black pepper mix dry and dissolve salt petre 2 oz salt petre put on and leave 3 weeks then wash off and leave 1 week to 10 days, then smoke. | Hot Sausage Balls 1 lb hot sausage 10 oz cheddar cheese grated 3 cup bisquick mix everything together. add enough water to make dough Bake at 400 for 10 minutes

22: Dandelion Bacon Dressing 3 slices bacon (or more, yum) 1 egg, beaten 1/2 tsp salt 2 TB sugar 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar 1/2 cup water Fry bacon, and break into small pieces. Mix together the egg, salt, sugar, vinegar, and water. Then pour into pan with bacon and cook and stir until thickened. Pour over dandelion greens.

23: Sweet Dills Soak pickles 5 days in salt water strong enough to float an egg. 3 days in clear water (fresh daily) 10 lbs pickles 1 1/2 qt vinegar 1 1/2 qt water 1 oz alum Steep and simmer 2 hrs pour off do not boil the above 4 ingredients. 2 qts vinegar 6 pounds sugar 1 oz whole all spice 1 oz stick cinnamon 1 oz celery seed dill seed in cans put the above 6 ingredients in a bag Drop pickles in syrup and simmer in granite pan if possible, just till heated and can. Granite pans leave pickles a nicer green clear color than aluminum.
