BC: I feel that the ancillary tasks have linked in well to the main product overall They are both consistent, and have reflected the tone of my main task well My documentary features lots of transitions with the shot fading to white. I used this purposely, to reflect this sense of a concert with the flashing lights. In my ancillary tasks, I have chosen this theme of flashing lights to meet the same features used in the documentary, again to add this feel of continuity.

FC: Evaluation Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I feel that my documentary and ancillary tasks worked well together, and would successfully attract the target audience I wished to aim at when constructing the documentary. I had decided to aim at younger audiences, particularly those interested in the genre of Arts, Culture and Music, as this is a subject I feel I know quite a lot about, and I felt that the demographic of music festivals was most commonly teenagers and young adults of the ages 15-25.

I felt that the subject of Music Festivals is a relatively current topic, especially with the current issues of fast selling tickets and festival controversies such as on stage invasions and mosh pit injuries. I also felt it would be a good opportunity to explore my skills in filming outside of the media room, as I wished to involve hand held filming of Reading Festival, seeing as I was attending this festival last August. I wished to make the documentary feel fun yet factual, with the mix of live footage of bands and artists the target audiences may enjoy listening to and watching, along with statistics and facts about the festivals history and background. I felt that by doing this, I would appeal younger audiences, by interesting them in the Festivals they may well attend, or have attended in the past.

I have included a festival history time line on my print advertisement, this engages the audiences, by listing factual information and enticing audiences to find out more through the documentary. It is also a useful way of listing the festivals the documentary plans to cover in the series. Having a faded image of a bassist over the festival shot of audiences means audiences need to look at the print advertisement in detail to see this, this can entice audiences to read the text on the print advertisement to find out more about the show. Having a slanted text box makes the image more interesting rather than having the box straight, it is a good feature for making the poster more engaging. The text fits in well with the colors of the image, and stands out above them, as if reaching out to audiences, making them wish to read the information listed. I feel that the print advertisement links in well with the main project, as the print advertisement includes an image used in the main task, adding that sense of continuity. I feel that the connotations of music and excitement are reflected into the main task through the use of fast panning shots and bright lights, along with the music featured underneath the spoken parts of voice overs etc. | Print Advertisment

 Print Advertisement

The image, layered with a bassist playing and audiences reaching out their hands toward the stage look professional, and the disco and bright lights connote a sense of excitement and party to audiences, giving the documentary positive connotations. The use of opacity filtering in Photoshop makes the image look professional, as you can still see the young woman holding her hands in a rock symbol through the blending of the bassist playing the guitar, she is holding her hands up to the bright lights erupting on the stage, connoting to audiences this sense of buildup and anticipation, much like what you would feel before a concert of festival. I captured a young woman in the shot holding her hands up in the image, this is a good feature, as it gets across to audiences the type of genre of people that typically go to these sorts of festivals, which is predominantly younger audiences. I am aiming to reach out to younger audiences with this documentary, so by having a younger girl in the shot, I feel it is a good way of relating to the audience I am wishing to aim the documentary I constructed at.

Clear Text (positioned over a white box) Logo Link to the Channel 4 site at the bottom Start Date Title Main object, blended into the image of the floor and with other people in the frame blurred to connote fast movement of time and to allow focus on the child | Print Advertisement (Comparison)

Clear Text (positioned over a semi-translucent image) Link to Channel 4 site, Twitter and Facebook Timeline of festival dates in history Bassist image blended into the main image of a festival, connoting a live performance, with the bright lights beaming over a bassist mid performance

Overall, I feel that the print advertisement is simple and easy to read. I feel that the image looks esthetically pleasing, and maps out to audiences exactly what will be included in the documentary. I use links to social media sites in the print advertisement, showing an understanding of the importance of social interaction through different web pages, and how this can broaden awareness of your documentary to different audiences I have made my print advertisement relativity simplistic, so to not over complicate the poster The print advertisement reflects the mood and characteristics of my main piece, through the use of imagery and factual information

 Print Advertisement

Double Page Spread | I have added an opacity effect to the boxes with text included so the image I captured could be seen through the text. I chose this as not only did the effect look professional, it also allows for the audience to see the whole image clearly, as this is what I wanted the focus on , apart from the information of the show I decided to include a quote from the documentary. I decided to include this as I wanted to engage audiences in the documentary I was creating, and I felt that the quote would interest audiences in the show Again I slanted the text box slightly, I felt this added continuity between the print advertisement and double page spread, and again engaged the audience rather than having the text box straight. I feel that the double page spread combines with the main piece effectively, as again I use the same image shown on the final shot of my documentary adding this sense of continuity, which looks professional The sort of language used in the double page spread also reflects the documentary well, as language features such as listing and factual information of festival history is used in my own documentary, so audiences immediately know what to expect by reading this double page spread

Double Page Spread | For the text, I separated out the sections to make it clear to audiences when the show was to be aired, and the additional information about the show I used this to make it clear to audiences, so they were more likely to watch the show, This also looked quite professional in the final draft I used this image to appeal to my audience of young adults, in the image (left) you can see where the audience members are predominantly young (with the exception of the slightly elder audience member circled in red, who shows to audiences that the show is for elder audiences interested in festivals as much as it is to younger audiences that attend festivals and concerts regularly

clear bold text Quotation Continuity with fonts and color scheme

Clear Text Page Numbers Quotation Show times and date Episode Content Bright, colorful Image

 Double Page Spread

I feel that the double page spread engages the audiences well, and promotes my documentary well I have kept the image consistent with color scheme and positioning, and I feel that this makes the image look professional The double page spread I have produced is influenced entirely by the documentary I have created, and that can clearly be seen by the features included in my double page spread, and the genre of documentary it reflects with the use of imagery The double page spread I feel will engage the audience of younger adults with an apparent interest in the music scene and festivals, I am confident I have made the continuity between the double page spread and the main task work well, especially as when asking for audience feedback, all of those asked said that after seeing this double page spread, they would wish to watch the documentary
