8: Cakes... | Carrot Cake (apparently a well loved recipe!) 3 carrots grated fine 2c. flour 1c. nuts (optional) 2t. bake powder 4 eggs 2t. soda (baking) 1c. oil 1 t. cinnamon 2c. sugar Beat eggs, add oil & sugar, blend. Combine flour, bake powder & soda and cinnamon and add to mixture- blend. Add carrots & nuts Pour into greased & floured tube pan Bake at 350 for 1 hr or until cake tests done

18: ~1 1/2 c. self rising flour ~1/2 tsp baking powder ~1 c. milk ~1 1/2 c. sugar ~2 c. fruit (add water to make a total of 4 cups. Then, add sugar to make fruit juicy) ~3/4 stick butter Melt butter in 9 x 13 pan Mix: flour, powder, milk. Pour into pan and mix with the melted butter Pour fruit mix on top of batter Bake 350-375 for 30-40 minutes or until brown. | Cobbler

28: Sausage Gravy | ~1pound of ground sausage (Nanny liked Bob Evans) ~Brown & crumble sausage in cast iron skillet ~Keep about 1 TBSP of grease in skillet (drain the rest) ~Add flour to the grease & scrap the brownings from bottom of pan (the flour helps loosen all the stuck on stuff) ~When flour has absorbed all grease & just coated the meat add milk (fill skillet- about 2-3 cups) ~Bring to a soft bubble ~Stir occasionally so it doesn't stick ~salt & pepper to taste

51: -3/4 c sugar -2 tsp cornstarch -1/3 c vinegar -1/3 c water -4 c cooked beets (drained- can used canned) -3 TBSP butter -1/4 tsp salt -1/4 tsp pepper -Combine Sugar & cornstarch, add vinegar & water- boil 5 minutes -Add beets & simmer 1/2 hour -Add butter, salt & pepper Serves 6-8 | Harvard Beets

52: Miscellaneous | How to cook a turkey: (it's written from bottom to top) -soak cheese cloth in melted butter -rinse turkey well, salt & pepper inside & out -cover with cheese cloth -cook at 375 for 2 1/2 hrs -remove cheese cloth -reduce to 350 & cook another 1 1/2 hrs (cooking time will vary depending on size of bird)
