1: Service Learning Projects FALL 2012
2: Giddy up!!! | Spirit Horse Ranch: Students from McMillan Middle School worked with HBSE students to create a promotional video about leadership to promote the ranch. | Service Learning | Pictures of Tools: Students from Blackburn High School worked with HBSE students to take pictures of antique tools and use those pictures to spark conversation with older adults.
3: Belvedere Sign: Students from Belvedere Elementary School and HBSE students worked to beautify a sign in north Omaha by planting flowers and engaging the community. | Community Involvement | Crafty!!! | Rugs for Refugees: Students from McMillan Middle School worked with HBSE students to make t-shirt rugs for refugees at Heartland Family Service
4: Spirit Horse Ranch is owned and operated by Keryl Mines and Bill Fitzpatrick | Whoa, Nelly!
5: They practiced grooming the horses. | They tried to lead the horse back to Keryl. | The McMillan and UNO Students practiced leadership skills through various activities with the horses.
6: The students worked together to make Charlie jump over a plastic pipe!!!!

10: The sign was very lonely when we started. | We all wanted to know what it meant. | 37th and Crown Point
11: There was a lot glass buried around the sign. Once we got that cleaned out, we set to work. | We planted a service berry tree behind the sign. | We love service learning!!!

14: The students were very proud of the work they did. The media even came out to interview them about the project!
15: When all was said and done, the sign looked great. The students made made a difference in their community.

17: Hard at work! | McMillan and UNO students knitted t-shirt rugs and hats for refugees. The items were to be presented to Heartland Family Service's Ready in 5 Program.
18: At the end of the project, the students presented the items to Heartland Family Service | They researched colors to be used in making the items. | Learning how to knit was a challenge for some.
19: Mrs. Nicky Clark from Heartland Family Service spoke to the students about refugees in their community. | SCIENCE CLUB | SUCCESS!!! | The UNO and McMillan students grew closer over the semester and made beautiful rugs and hats in the process.
20: We took pictures of antiques and used those pictures to spark conversation with older adults. After obtaining this information we hoped to create a book of stories. | Woof!!! | Pictures of Tools!!!

24: The Adams Park seniors meet several times a week and are often involved in many service learning projects with Blackburn students. | We shared a nice boxed lunch together while the students discussed the pictures they took. | Many interesting stories came from the students sharing the photos with the seniors.
25: Overall, everyone had a great time and the project was a huge success!!!!!
