FC: The Virtual Child Part 1
"MyVirtualChild is an interactive, Web-based simulation that allows students to act as a 'parent' and raise their own 'child.' By making decisions about specific scenarios, students can raise their children from birth to age 18 and learn first - hand how their own decisions and other parenting actions will affect their child over time."
My baby girl's name is Ysabel She is 3 months old now
At the age of eight months: Physical Development: baby can rolls from back to stomach and stomach to back; raises up on arms and knees into crawling position; Social and Emotional Development: imitates sounds, actions, and facial expressions made by others; responds differently to strangers and family members; Intellectual Development: searches for toys hidden under a blanket, basket, or container; focuses eyes on small objects and reaches for them
Ysabel turns to 12 months, she is a happy girl
When Ysabel turned to the age of 12 months: Ysabel learned to walk in 9 months old, it's earlier compare with the average age group. When I paid closer attention to see the social and emotional development with Ysabel, she seems meeting the milestones, but I think she needs more praises and encouragement to help her to build confidence and feel more independent. Ysabel shows her excellent learning skill in speech and language development. She understand some basic sentences and able to pronounce clear words. When I played the hiding game with her, she was observing and able to find the objects. As a future Early Childhood Educator, observation will help me understand the domains of child development. Observing a child's unique development is a rewarding skill to learn.
By analyzing each developmental stage, I will be able to assess the child's growth through three main areas:physical changes, intellectual changes, and social emotional changes. Developmental milestone is a skill for children acquires within a specific time frame; each child will be different from other children and builds at his or her own pace.
This assignment allowed me to explore the role of a child, parent and teacher, also allowed me to demonstrate appropriated professional behaviors and develop my own personal beliefs and morals in regrading my achievement.
Raising a virtual child has given me the opportunity to learn the first hand working experiences. Furthermore, I can acquire the necessary knowledge, values and skills through daily activities and observation.
"The child must know that he or she is a miracle, that since the beginning of the world there hasn't been, and until the end of the world, there will not be, another child like him." "Engages individual children in respectful interactions, which are playful, joyful, frequent, and extend over a period of time." "The hundred languages of children to refer to the many ways that children have to express their understanding of the world, their many ways of personal expression."
