FC: Watershed for Every Classroom 2014-2015 | Erin De Vries

1: WEC is a professional development program for educators who teach in the Lake Champlain Basin. This year-long experience, presented by the Champlain Basin Education Initiative, offers teachers inspiration, knowledge, and skills to frame exciting watershed education.

2: CBEI is a consortium of environmental and place-based education groups throughout the Lake Champlain Basin. Since 1992, more than 650 educators have participated in CBEI-sponsored events, including one-day workshops, forums, summits, and WEC, a 5-credit graduate course.

3: CBEI Partners include: Lake Champlain Basin Program Lake Champlain Committee Our Curriculum Matters Shelburne Farms UVM Watershed Alliance-Lake Champlain Sea Grant VT Agency of Natural Resources Additional partners, such as ECHO Leahy Center for Lake Champlain are included as needed.

10: Day 4: Exploring Natural Communities and Citizen Science on the Ausable River

11: Conducting chemical, physical, and biological water quality testing along the Ausable River with assistance from Ausable River Association and UVM Watershed Alliance | Erin De Vries

12: Day 5: Human Impact Investigation on Englesby Brook with Burlington's Stormwater Planner

13: Developing Essential Questions for Lesson Planning

14: Days 6-7, October: Northern VT and Québec Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge, Swanton, VT Venise-en-Québec

15: Exploring best management practices on Choiniere dairy farm in Highgate, VT | Investigating blue-green algae data collected by citizen monitors on Missisquoi Bay | Erin De Vries

16: Day 8, January: Hands-On Summit: How technology can be used effectively by students to gather data about real-world events

17: Comparing Historic and Current Land Use from Battery Park, Burlington, VT

18: Day 9, March: Tour of University of Vermont's LEED-certified Aiken Center, including a "living wetland machine" for wastewater treatment

20: Days 10-11, May: Lake Champlain Islands Reflections and Presentations

21: Presentation of final work | Learning how to incorporate seasonal change, Native American traditions, and birding into classroom curricula

22: World Water Day Contest WEC teachers shared their students' work, including writing, videos, photography, and a quilt, at this well-attended public event in March
