1: The Reese family arrived July 30th tired from their long car journey from St Mary's Kansas traveling west through Montana and Idaho to Washington. The first night in Washington was spent with Donald, Anna, and Truman at their new condo in Mill Creek. After a nights rest and some sight seeing everyone came over for dinner to Don & Joan's in Kirkland. The 4 members of the Reese family and 7 members of the Don Baker family. Dinner was served hot cooked salad which everyone liked (recipe page 2 of this book and a cook your own beef fondue. Saturday morning, too early for most of us , we left for Roche Harbor. A 1 1/2 hour car ride to the ferry dock in Anacortes Then a one hour ferry ride to Friday Harbor followed by a 30 minute drive to Roche Harbor and the "Flyer" to Pearl Island. Lunch was enjoyed in Friday Harbor at the Downrigger before going to Roche. Dinner on Pearl featured a lot of different seafood All was a big hit except the oysters. 2: Recipe for the cooked salad | 1/2 medium head of cauliflower separated into florets cook until crisp-tender less than 10 mins 2tbsp salad oil 1 tbsp sugar 2 teaspoons corn starch 2 teaspoons instant onion 1 teaspoon prepared mustard 1 1/2 teaspoons of garlic salt 1/4 teaspoon salt blend in 2/3 cup water 1/3 cup vinegar stir constantly until mixture thick add cauliflower, 2 cups of ham cut into 1 1/2 inch strips heat 6 cups iceberg lettuce 1 cup halved cherry tomatoes 1/2 cup celery. Cook 30 seconds serve immediately
4: Brie Recipe appetizer
5: One 13.2 oz round of Brie cheese dried cherries soaked 1 min in water pecan nuts toasted in oven 1/2 pkt of puff pastry sheets 1 egg and 1 tbsp water beat together 1/2 cup honey 1/2 tsp chopped rosemary Thaw pastry and heat oven to 400 degrees. Unfold pastry on floured board and roll to 14 inch sq. stir cherries, pecans,honey rosemary in bowl. Spread onto center of pastry. Top with cheese. Brush edges of pastry with egg mixture. Fold 2 opposite sides of pastry over cheese. Trim excess. Fold sides up over cheese and press edges to seal. Place seam down on cookie sheet. Brush with egg . Bake 20-25 minutes until golden brown, Let stand for at least 45 minutes.
8: Cucumber salad. Peel and slice thinly an English cucumber add vinegar add salt 1/2 cup mayo 1/2 cup sour cream Apple and mandarin orange salad Peel, slice and core apples cut into cubes Drain and add 2 cans of mandarin oranges Pour coleslaw dressing over apples and oranges Trifle in a glass bowl a box of lady fingers soaked in sherry a box of lady fingers stood on end around a glass bowl a 32 oz can sliced peaches drained pour over fingers 2 X recipe of Bird's Custard powder from grocery store 1 pint whipping cream layered on top decorate with strawberries or raspberries and nuts
9: Spinach Salad Pre-washed baby spinach tear long stems off 1 8oz can sliced water chestnuts 4 large white mushrooms sliced 1 hard boiled egg per person 1/2 cup real bacon bits large amount of fresh bean sprouts (canned if you must) Dressing May multiply up as needed. Put ingredients together in this order and your one measuring cup will work very well 1cup of sugar 1 cup of veg oil 1/2 cup of tomato ketchup /2 cup white vinegar 1/4 cup of worcestershire sauce
10: Lasagna Tomato sauce 2 1/2 lbs ground beef 1 cup chopped fresh parsley 1/2 chopped onion 2 gloves of garlic minced pinch of each: rosemary, thyme, oregano salt and pepper 1 large can tomato sauce 2 large cans of concentrated tomato soup 1 can mushrooms 2 tbsp olive oil brown ground beef in olive oil brown onion,celery, parsley and garlic combine meat with all the ingredients and put in a very large crock pot for 8 hours begin on high for 20 mins then low for 8 hours. Next day put cheese sauce together
11: Lasagna Meat cheese sauce 2 1/2 lbs of ground beef 1 cup chopped parsley. 1 bunch 1 cup of cooked chopped spinach. 2 bunches 1 large pkt Philly cream cheese. 6oz salt & pepper brown meat and combine all ingredients cook spinach in boiling water drain and chop 2 aluminum trays 11 5/8 X 9 1/4 X 2 1/2 inches 2 boxes of lasagna noodles cook lasagna noodles for 16 mins in boiling water very large bag of shredded mozzarella cheese make up 2 tbsp olive oil in bottom of tray add noodles to cover add handful of cheese. cover with tomato sauce from crock pot not too much. Then add more noodles, cover with cheese and next the cheese sauce. cover with noodles & another handful of cheese and final layer of tomato sauce. Cover well lasagna is 9 layers deep. Noodles, cheese, tomato sauce. Repeat with cheese sauce. Repeat with final layer of tomato sauce.

16: Sunday was spent relaxing on Pearl Island. The boys did some boating and Kayaking and Truman wanted to catch fish. Eventually everyone caught some fish The Reese family went to the famous Catholic church in Roche Harbor and met the priest from Kansas!
17: Recipe for Cat Fish Batter. by David Anderson 1 box 20 oz Kelloggs corn flakes 15 oz flour 1 tbsp black pepper 1 tbsp salt 1 tbsp garlic powder & salt 2 tbsp Lawrey's salt 3 tbsp Cajun spices

29: The boys spent each night in the tent. Evan and Will were very kind to Truman and they had lots of fun
30: Don took everyone for a ride around the island on the "Flyer" | Truman ate as much as he could!
31: The weather was so hot we ate all meals even breakfast on the deck
32: The flowers were all in full bloom. Every year Don grows these from seed in Kirkland and gradually acclimatize them to the outdoors. Next he transplants them onto the deck in the island and has a special watering system to make them grow.
