Reception Cards
Print your reception invitations and response cards separate from the ceremony invitations if your guest list for the ceremony is larger than your guest list for the reception. Reception cards allow you to invite certain guests to one or the other.
If your guest list for the ceremony is larger than your guest list for the reception, print your reception invitations and response cards separate from the ceremony invitations and response cards. Reception cards allow you to invite certain guests to only the ceremony or only the reception. Even if all guests will be invited to both the ceremony and the reception, separate invitations and response cards for each help to clarify that the festivities surrounding your big day will be at separate locations. While reception cards should match or complement the ceremony invitations, since they’ll be mailed together to at least some guests, you can feel free to make your ceremony invitation more formal and your reception invitation a little more playful. One way to do this is simply with wording. On the one hand, you can formally request the pleasure of your guest’s company. On the other hand, you can invite friends and family members to get their party on after the ceremony! Whatever feels right to you and your fiancé is what’s right for the invitation. After all, everyone is coming to celebrate YOU as a couple, and the most honest reflection of who you are as a couple is going to feel the most fun and authentic. If your reception cards are separate from your ceremony invitations, you’ll want to include separate reception response cards so you get an accurate head count for seating. As with your ceremony response cards, it’s a good idea to create a numbered master list and pencil corresponding numbers inconspicuously on the back of each reception response card. That way, you’ll have a way of tracking who has replied just in case anyone forgets to send theirs back – or if someone has illegible writing. Once the reception response cards start rolling in, trust us, you’re upcoming wedding and after party is going to start feeling really exciting! Happy planning!
