How to Host a Summer Party

This summer, seize the hot and sticky by planning a party that rocks. From old school water games in the backyard to flavored margaritas for the grown-ups, ring in the summer Mixbook-style. The options for summer party themes are endless whether you are hosting a work event , a pool party, or an afternoon at the beach. Mixbook has you covered like sunscreen. Even if you’re celebrating summer just to celebrate summer we understand and support your need to celebrate. Many of our summer party invitations feature easy to mimic themes like our “Summer Party” and “Summer Patterns” invitations.

For formal events that will have more guests like the annual get-together for your office, be sure to give people about two or three months notice. Families will be traveling and for the best turnout you’ll want folks to calendar your event in advance. For more spontaneous, casual affairs like a Saturday pool party just because it’s a month that begins with J, a 3 or 4-week notice should suffice.

Set Your Summer Themed Menu

Hosting a summer party is the best. People are already so happy about summer that it’s not hard to make your gathering fun. From casual BBQ to spicy Mexican, from Americana hot dogs and burgers to a taste of Provence, your summer party food selections can run the gamut. Just be sure that your beverages match. You don’t want to be serving Rosé from Chateauneuf du Pape with fish tacos or watermelon margaritas with a nicoise salad. Pair your food and beverages thoughtfully and you’ll have a success on your hands. Kids can be tricky if your menu branches out so think about a grilled cheese option or something similar that everyone will eat. Same goes for lemonade, which is a always a crowd pleaser.

Summer Party Games and Activities

In terms of activities, remember what you used to love in the summer and follow that. From water activities to badminton, croquet or petanque – everybody loves to be outside. If the humidity factor is insane, crank the AC inside for those who wilt. If you’re a city dweller with no room for setting up outdoors, take your party to the park or open up the windows, set the table with your best linen, and have your guests come in white. Even a simple dinner party with fresh fare, good conversation and a slight sheen of sweat will be awesome. Whatever you do, people will join in because hey, it’s summertime!
