FC: 1960s Project By: Joey Lambertz Hour 1

1: John F. Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States. He served as president from 1961 until his assassination in 1963. He was a democrat and served in the House of Representatives. John also served as a commander in WWII. He had to deal with the war in Vietnam while he was alive . http://www.newsinus.us/politics/jfk-assassination/

2: Dr. Martin Luther King jr. was born January 15, 1929. He was considered the father of the Civil Rights movement.He gave a famous speech " I Have a Dream" speech in 1963. In 1964 he received the Nobel Peace prize. He died April 4, 1968. http://www.writespirit.net/inspirational_talks/political/martin_luther_king_talks/

3: The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964. This outlawed unequal voter registration. It also outlawed segregation in the work place, schools, and public places. http://www.unc.edu/courses/2010spring/law/357c/001/internetharassment/background.html

4: Nelson Mandela was a hero to many in South Africa in the 1960s. Like Dr. Martin Luther King jr. he used peace to get the freedom that African Americans deserve. 5: In late 1961 John F. Kennedy sent U.S. officials to Vietnam. They were sent to back the South Vietnamese government against the Vietcong guerrillas. 6: The Beetles where a rock group from Liverpool, England. They are considered the most influential and successful bands of the 1960s. They are one of the two groups that sold more than one billion records in their time. The only other person who accomplished this was Elvis Presley. http://planetlyrics.co/artist/The+Beatles

7: Elvis was one of the most iconic men of his time. He sold over one billion records which was only accomplished by him and the Beetles in their time. He had changed music forever. http://www.squidoo.com/elvis-presley-early-years

8: In the 1960s many countries raced to get the first man on the moon. The United States won this competition on July 20, 1969 when Neil Armstrong took the first steps on the moon. 9: The pompadour was a popular hairstyle in the 1960s. It was the hair worn by all celebrities including Elvis. This was the hair all the cool kids had, constantly putting grease in their hair to comb it back. 10: This is the Jaguar E-Type. The E-Type, known as XK-E, quickly became the car of the 1960s after being manufactured. Enzo Ferarii said this probably is the most beautiful car ever made. This was the car all the teens wanted when they turned 16 in the 1960s.
