1: The pop culture being studied is a song created by The Beatles. The song's topic was chosen to related to everybody around the world. The topic was love.
2: The song was created by The Beatles in a time of hardship. They used love as a theme so it could be accepted by everybody. The Mennonite culture, however, was not accepting of this form of media. Toews uses this example of the children listening to funeral announcements over the Beatles music because the Beatles music from the "outside world" was not acceptable in their confined culture.
4: All things grow better with love. | Thesis Statement | In A Complicated Kindness the Beatles’ song “All You Need is Love” is referenced after stating that it is more wholesome to listen to names of the recently deceased than a song about love; the song was created to be understood in every culture using the common theme of love, this reveals that the Mennonite culture would favor convention over love.
