FC: A Celebration in Honor of Camilla Huxford
1: WHEREAS: Camilla Huxford is a respected and long time member of the Tuscaloosa community and a native of Brewton, Alabama; and WHEREAS: She inspires others with her love of music and singing and with her generous patronage of the arts in our community; and WHEREAS: Camilla Huxford is a long time and beloved member of the College of Arts and Sciences Leadership Board at The University of Alabama; and WHEREAS: She is a special friend and patron of the College’s School of Music who established the Huxford Endowed Support Fund in 1997 to support the student symphony orchestra; and WHEREAS: She honored the orchestra with the desire that it be named in honor of her late parents, Camilla C. “Skeeter” Huxford, Jr. and Jean Miller Huxford; and The University of Alabama Board of Trustees so named the student symphony orchestra The Huxford Symphony Orchestra at The University of Alabama; and WHEREAS:In 2011 Camilla Huxford established an endowment to support graduate fellowships for the principal chairs in clarinet and French horn in the Huxford Symphony Orchestra; and WHEREAS: This generous and lasting underwriting brings adds distinction to the Huxford Symphony Orchestra, the state’s only student-centered, university orchestra; and WHEREAS:Due in great measure to Camilla Huxford’s vision, the Huxford Symphony Orchestra stands out among the best university orchestras and provides young men and women remarkable opportunities to both study and hear great music; and WHEREAS:Students and faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences regard their friend Camilla Huxford with great affection, respect and pride. Therefore, Be It Resolved By the College of Arts and Sciences that it hereby expresses its fealty and deepest appreciation to Camilla Huxford for her sustained benefaction and friendship by naming her a College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Benefactor. Be It Further Resolved that this resolution be spread upon the permanent record of the College and that Camilla Huxford be so affectionally and admirably recognized as a Distinguished Benefactor in its annals.
