2: Essential Question: | How did they build the castle?
3: Introduction: | Castles were a very important part of medieval times. Medieval Castles were dominant from the early 10th century right through to the mid 17th century.

5: Castle Parts Definitions | moat- a deep trench usually filled with water that surrounded a castle drum tower- a round tower built into a wall curtain wall- a castle wall enclosing a courtyard drawbridge- a wooden bridge, leading to a gateway , capable of being raised or lowered
6: Castle Location | In many instances, the site itself would determine and even limit and change the castle plans. Many castles were dotted across England and other countries in Europe.
7: Castle Construction | Building a castle wasn't easy. It took a lot of time, money, effort, and large construction crews. 1,00 men built a castle. Some of the workers were paid and some weren't.
8: Castle Design | The entrances to castles were from a very early age, recognized as the weakest spot in a castle's design and structure.
9: A Castle's Purpose | Castles helped protect the people living in the castle when they were under attack. When they build a castle they must make sure that it has a strong structure, so the castle can keep them safe.
10: People in a Castle | In a castle, some of the people who lived there would be the king, queen, knights, princes, princesses, barons, nobles, lords, ladies, bishops, watchmen, squire, messengers, cook(s), chaplain, jester, peasants and slaves. There might also be a blacksmith and armory in the yard. the king and the queen didn't usually live in the castle. they lived in their own manor house. They would send a baron to take charge in a castle.
