FC: Karen Groh & Sergey Zhemchuzhny

and keep them safe always. We are unable to carry a child, but we know we are meant to be parents and are thankful for adoption. We are committed to parenting together and both plan to take time off work to bond with our child after birth. We want to give our child every opportunity to experience life to the fullest and will provide every opportunity possible for that to happen. Our names are Karen and Sergey. Karen has four siblings and grew up on a farm in southwestern Ohio with memories of playing softball, riding her bike, exploring the barns, and making up games. She loves to read about history and traveled to countries she read about in books, wanting to experience these places first hand. After working for a few years, she decided to go to college and put herself through school. She considers herself an "intellectual late bloomer". After graduating college, she still felt the need to do something bigger, to make a difference, and since she still had the travel bug, the Peace Corps was the perfect fit. She lived and taught in Ukraine for over two years. What an adventure! | Dear Birthparents, We want to thank you for taking the time to learn a little about us. We know this time is very difficult for you, and we cannot possibly understand what you are going through. An adoption plan is a loving sacrifice you are making for yourself and your child. We want you to explore all options and be at peace with whatever decision you make. If you decide on an adoption plan and choose us as parents for your child, we promise to love him/her unconditionally, give our child all the emotional support they need, encourage their happiness in whatever they choose, provide the best education to our ability,

Currently, Karen works for an insurance company and takes time once in a while to teach Junior Achievement to elementary school children. She likes to play piano, make jewelry, read, scrapbook, travel and solve Sudoku puzzles. Most of all, she loves to laugh and loves to make others laugh. Sergey grew up in Donetsk, Ukraine. He is the oldest of two boys. He has fond memories of his childhood spending time with his grandmother and playing soccer with his friends in the neighborhood. Sergey graduated from University in Donetsk with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. After moving to the U.S., he attended university for another major in Mechanical Engineering. He works for a large corporation as an engineer and is currently pursuing his Masters. He likes to play soccer, cook, fly radio controlled airplanes and seek any new adventure. If you've read this far, you've probably figured out by now that we met in Ukraine. We lived in the same neighborhood and met at the "English Club" in the city. We've been married since 2001. We love to travel - Sergey goes to Ukraine almost every other year to see his family, Karen doesn't go as often. We enjoy hiking in the Smokey Mountains and learning about foreign cultures, languages and exploring different places. We want to share these adventures with our child. Most often, you'll find us close to home taking walks in the park, hanging out with family and friends, watching movies, listening to music, going to the zoo, visiting museums or attending sporting events. We live in the community where Karen grew up. In fact, her parents and one brother are within two miles of our house. Family is very important to us. Karen's family gathers together several times a year for special occasions. One of their traditions is to gather on Christmas Eve and exchange stocking stuffers. But in Ukraine, the big holiday is New Year's Eve. That is when (Grandfather Frost) and his granddaughter (Snowflake) deliver gifts to all the good little boys and girls. Even though Sergey's family lives in Ukraine, they talk on the phone or Skype over the internet often. Our parents are excellent role models and taught us the values of honesty, integrity, respect, and helping others. We would like to share those principles with our child, and we believe we would be good examples and role models.

Education is very important to us, and we are dedicated to doing what is in our child's best interests. We will provide a loving and nurturing home and a caring environment for our child. Your baby will be cherished and loved with all our hearts. We want to play an active and supportive role in our child's life be it teaching soccer or the piano, helping with math homework or exploring new places. At night we will read bedtime stories about princes and princesses, Winnie the Pooh, or Sergey's favorite (sort of like the Gingerbread Man). Our child will grow up in a multicultural, Christian home, combining American and Ukrainian traditions and English and Russian language, where laughter is a constant. Everyone in our family is excited about a new addition. We see our child playing with our nieces and nephews, getting rides on the tractor with Karen's father, decorating (Easter cakes) with Sergey's mom, learning to fish with Sergey's dad, baking cookies with Karen's mom, and going shopping with Auntie Cindy. Some of our favorite memories with our nieces and nephews are jumping with them on a trampoline, dressing up for Halloween and going trick-or-treating, attending their sporting events and dance recitals, grilling hot dogs over the fire pit, playing games and reading stories. These are some of the fun memories we want to create with our child. Thank you for taking the time to read a little about us. We admire your strength for putting the needs of your child ahead of your own and will always reinforce the love you have for your child to make that choice. Our promise to you - Know that the child will be loved by everyone in our families. Your child will always feel loved and secure in our home and will hear everyday how much they are loved. You will always be treated with respect in our home. We wish you luck and peace. Sincerely, Karen and Sergey

We got married in Ukraine in March 2001. Sergey's family, friends and some Peace Corps buddies attended. | Then, seven months later, we did it all again - American style! This time Karen's family and friends attended. It was neat to experience the differences even in wedding ceremonies.

We live in a quiet subdivision with many parks nearby. There are lots of kids of all ages in the neighborhood. We have a pool in the back as well as a small yard. We especially like our backyard, because it backs up to woods and is private. We live in an Excellent rated school district with many private options as well.

KAREN (written by Sergey) The first time I saw Karen, I knew she was the ONE. Karen struck me as a very independent and smart person. I could always ask her for advice and be 100% sure it is good. When I came to America, I was immersed in a new culture. With Karen's help, I not only learned how to survive, but also how to become successful. Karen is very kind and she loves her nieces | and nephews. She always initiates interactions with them whether playing games or doing any other fun activity. She loves to have her family and friends at our house for pool and barbeque parties. She always has good ideas of what gifts to buy for birthdays and Christmas for both our families. Karen is very dependable. I always joke to my parents that I feel like I am behind "a brick wall" (nothing will harm me) when I am with Karen. She is not just a woman, she is a very special human being and my wife who cares about people, our family, and our friends. Without a doubt in my mind, Karen will make a wonderful mother. She is eager to accept this chapter in her life, and I want her to give her talents to her children.

Sergey really enjoys cooking. | Sergey likes to try anything once. He had such a great time scuba diving, he can't wait to try it again. | Sergy wins his division in the 5K race.

sharing his traditions. Sergey is such a good cook, and he often prepares (shish-ka-bob). It's delicious and has become his specialty. Every day, he can be found jogging or walking in the park. Though we are from different backgrounds, we have a lot in common, and I treasure the differences, too. For me, the differences make it more interesting. I know Sergey will be a loving and nurturing father, because I see how he is with our nieces and nephews. They like to be with him. They ask him to help with their homework, and they know he is up for any adventure. He'll ride the most thrilling rides with them at the amusement parks. Sergey has a sense of humor and will do things to make me laugh. Sergey is special. I feel secure knowing he'll put his family before all else. | SERGEY (written by Karen) Sergey is one of a kind. He's the most caring individual I know. I knew he was special when he would walk his mother home at night after her store closed, because he didn't want her walking home alone in the dark. Sergey is entertaining, athletic, stylish, wise and a wonderful person - no surprise I married him! Sergey likes to entertain, and when we do, he makes sure everyone is having a good time and enough to eat. He likes to be around friends and family. Everyone likes to hear his stories about growing up in Ukraine, and he enjoys
