FC: Count De Monte Cristo Archetypal story lines, characters and heroic cycle

1: Synopsis The Count of Monte Cristo is the storie of revenge of Edmond Dontes. He is accused of treason and is sent to the prison island Chateau d'If for 14 years. He escapes and every step he takes is all part of a plan to destroy the lives of those that destroyed his.

2: Count of Monte Cristo is an archetypal storie of revenge, love triangle and the rebuilding of a shattered life. Edmond wants to get revenge on all the people that ruined his. There is a love triangle between Edmond, Mercedes and Fernand. And Edmond takes his life from poor in prison to a rich Count.

4: Archetypal Character List Hero Edmond Dantes Edmond is the hero because he is willing to die for his plan of revenge on Fernand, the person that ruined his life. He is in prison for 14 years all the while he plans his every move. He is flawed, he is poor at birth and he cannot read or write. But while in prison he is taught and learns all that he needs and more. When he escapes he hides in plain sight of his enemies under the name the Count of Monte Cristo.

6: SHADOW Fernand Mondego Fernand is the shadow because he sends Edmond to prison a island so he can take Mercedes from Edmond. He accuses Dantes of treason and has him is sent to Chateau d'If while Fernand marries Mercedes. He was always jealous of Edmond and with him out of the picture he can do what he wants.

8: Threshold Guardian Jacopo is the Guardian because when Dantes first meets Jacopo they have to fight to the death. Dantes wins, but spares his life and in return Jacopo helps him to get his revenge on Fernand.

10: Mentor Abbe Faria is the mentor because he is the one that taught Edmond to read and write and to fight. He helped him get out of prison and also told him where he could find his giant treasure. He dies when the tunnel they were digging to escape collapses.

12: Shapeshifter Mercedes is the Shapeshifter because once Dantes it gone she moved on to Fernand, but once Dantes gets back and she realizes its him she loves him again. She is also an example of a Femme Fatale.

14: Hero Cycle Call to adventure: Edmond is accused of treason by his friend Fernand. he is sent to Chateau d'If so Fernand can marry Mercedes. Threshold Crossing: Edmond escapes from Chateau d'If and starts to plan how to get revenge

15: Allies: Abbe Faria is the old man that teaches Edmond all he needs to know so he can get his revenge, he tells him where he can find Spada's treasure and helps Edmond to escape. Jacopo after loosing to Edmond promises him that he will protect him with his life since Edmond spared his.Jacopo helps Edmond with his plan of revenge by helping him studie his enemies and by helping him get Spada's treasure. Edmond is also helped by Jacpop's pirate friends.

16: Tests: Edmond has to first Escape From Chateau d'If. Once he escapes he must fight Jacopo to the death. Edmond must find Spada's treasure. And he must studie his enemies to know how he can torture them. | Supreme ordeal: Edmond tortures and destroys the lives of those that sent him to Chateau d'If. In the end he must fight Fernand to the death. He uses the training from Abbe to kill him.

17: Reward: Edmond finds out that he Albert is his son and he gets Mercedes. He gets his revenge and keeps his fortune. but he realizes Abbe was right in that revenge wasn't what would satisfy him. Return home: Edmond makes a promise to Abbe that he will use the money for good. He buys Chateau d'If so it cant be used for torture any more. he returns with his wife Mercedes and his son Albert. Jacopo is still by his side until his dept is paid.
