2: The Home Depot | History -The Home Depot was founded in Atlanta in 1978 by Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank. -By 2003 the Home Depot had grown from three stores employing 200 people to more than 1,700 stores employing 300,000 people.
3: Present-Day -The Home Depot is now the world's largest home-improvement center and the second-largest retailer in the United States. -It has stores in all fifty states, Canada, Mexico, and Chile. -The Home Depot ended its 2004 fiscal year with sales of $73 billion and earnings of $5 billion.
4: Delta Airlines | History -Delta Airlines began in 1928 in Louisiana by B. R. Coad and C. E. Woolman. -Woolman purchased three Travel Air six-seat monoplanes and on June 17, 1929, inaugurated Delta's passenger service from Love Field in Dallas, Texas, to Jackson, Mississippi.
5: Delta Airlines is the nation's third largest airline. | Present-Day -In early 2003 Delta created Song, a new unit of the company that offers flyers competitive low-fare amenities. -On September 14, 2005, the company finally filed for bankruptcy protection from creditors. Delta emerged from bankruptcy on April 25, 2007, and resumed public trading of its shares on the New York Stock Exchange about a week later.
6: The Coca-Cola Company | History | The first coke was made by John Stith Pemberton. When he sold the first glass, he was already in a established soda fountain tonics the promised health benefits. He began to experiment with extracts of the coca leaf and kola nut. He made a moderately healthy drink. A marketing phenomenon was born.
7: Coca-Cola Today | The Coca-Cola Company has left a lasting imprint on Georgia. Emory University in Atlanta has benefited from the philanthropy of both Candlers and the Woodruffs. Coca-Cola is the most widely recognized consumer product in the world. This company is the world's largest manufacturer, distributor, and marketer of nonalcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups. It operates in more than 200 countries.
8: Georgia-Pacific | History | Owen R. Cheatham established the Georgia Hardwood Lumber Company in Augusta in 1927. Its first facility on the Pacific Coast was purchased in 1947 at Bellingham, Washington. In 1948 the company was renamed Georgia-Pacific Plywood and Lumber Company. The operations and product lines have been expanded since the 1940s. The Corporate Headquarters moved back to Georgia in 1982.
9: Georgia-Pacific Today | Georgia-Pacific is a very successful company. It now manufactures paper, pulp, packaging, tissue, building products, and construction-related chemicals. They have over 600 facilities in the United States, Canada, and several other countries. They employ over 61,000 people.
