10: On the flag the yellow feild and the red symbol colors are the colors of Spain. First brought to New Mexico by Spainsh explorers in 1540. On New Mexico's flag we see a red sun with rays steching out from it. There are 4 groups of rays with 4 rays in each group. This is an ancient sun symbol of a Native American people called Zia. The Zia believed that the giver of all good gavers them gifts in groups of 4.
