9: Harriet Tubman Harriet Ross was born into slavery in 1819. As a child she was beaten and sustained a serious head injury for refusing to tie up a runaway slave. She married John Tubman and after five years was afraid she was going to be sold again and lose her family, so she ran away from the slavery she had endured all of her life. Harriet Tubman was a strong women.

10: She was free and yet she knew others were not, determined she learned all there was to know about how the underground railroad worked. With St. Catherine's, Canada as her base she worked on freeing her family. Harriet became the conductor of the UGRR and freed some three hundred slaves. Harriet took many dangerous trips into the south to free as many slaves as possible, they called her "Moses".

11: She was called "Moses" because others felt she traveled into the peril of Egypt in her case the south and lead the slaves across the desert, in her case the southern states. The whole time being chased always in danger of getting caught. If caught they could have been killed or beaten or both. She was there Moses, their savior, their friend. Harriet Tubman allowed nothing to stand in her way of doing the right thing.
