John Cabot explored the coast of Newfoundland and Eastern Canada. Here he became the King's best friend.
Cabot was born in Genoa, Italy, but his sponsoring country was England. | He was born the same place and the same time as Christopher Columbus. | His real name is Zwan Caboto.
One of his big accomplishments was finding Canada. Although, he was actually trying to find China. Oops.
As he sailed to different parts of the world, he would continue to make maps for each place he visited.
The king of Canada helped pay for Cabot's journey because if he found a new route to other parts of the world, he would get money too.
In 1498, Cabot set out on another journey, but was never heard from again. | Some people think that he was stranded on an ice burg and died from lack of food.
Cabot set out on these journeys to get natural resources and... to explore. He didn't have the easiest time finding different parts of the world because of poor maps. That is why he made new maps for further investigation.
To cross the ocean, you need a ship. No airplanes had been used during Cabot's journey. Although, I would rather ride an airplane than a ship. No need to be seasick. | Imagine stepping onto dry land after 40 days on ship. You haven't stepped on a piece of sturdy land in 40 days. Cabot and his crew must have been kissing the ground when they got off the rocking ship.
This shall conclude our information on John Cabot. Keep learning!
