FC: Scottsboro 9
1: IN DEDICATION TO THE 9 SCOTTSBORO BOYS
2: One afternoon in Scottsboro, Alabama there was 9 African American boys sitting on a train. a couple white hobo men claimed they were brutally assaulted by the boys for no operant reason.
4: The white men went to the authority with some white women who were also on the train. The white men claimed to be assaulted and the women said they were raped.
6: The boys were tried, convicted, and all but one was sentenced to death, the thirteen year old was sentenced to life in prison.
7: Their case brought communist party to attention to the African Americans all over the nation.
9: The actual truth was on March 25, 1931 the boys were attacked by white hobos on the train which resulted into a big fight.
10: The black boys threw the white boys off the train. The white boys filled a complaint to the Scotttsboro, Alabama sheriff.
12: Police rounded up the boys and found two white women with them in which the white women falsely claimed the boys sexually assaulted them.
14: The jurors found all boys guilty. Eight was sentenced to death and one was sentenced to life.
16: The was even medical evidence that showed the white women was not raped.
17: The results was Powell VS. Alabama which stated the 14th Amendment was violated.
18: There was no organization that stepped up to help them but ILD, a communist party, appealed the conviction to the supreme court.
20: It was given a new trial but was convicted again. They did another case which was Norris VS. Alabama. The Supreme Court found that due process was violated again. Alabama drops the case and lets the boys free off of nine long years.
