FC: Mongooses by Matt Yohe

Thesis Statement Mongooses eat many things, live in several places, have a lot of characteristics, and look different than any other animal.

What do they look like? The length of a mongoose varies. Most mongooses body length is seven to twenty-four inches long though some are larger. Their tail is six to twelve inches long though some may be larger.

Mongooses have many different colorings. They usually have brown or gray fur. They're darker colored in moist regions than in dry regions.

What does a mongoose eat? Mongooses for the most part are carnivores. They eat rodents, birds, and reptiles including snakes that they have recently killed. They also eat bird eggs, frogs, insects, and worms.

Mongooses are also herbivores if they can't find any meat. They'll eat fruits. Nuts and seeds are what they will also eat along with the fruit. They're technically called omnivores since they eat both meat and plants.

Where and with who does it live? Mongooses live in Africa, parts of Europe, and parts of Asia. They live in abandoned burrows or if they can't find an abandoned burrow they make their own. They live with others or by themselves. There are both terrestrial and semi-aquatic mongooses.

Mongooses also live in Hawaii. They live in Hawaii to control a rodent population and because they were dying due to habitat loss. Some mongooses are kept as pets which I think is pretty cool.

What are some characteristics? A mongooses life span varies depending on where it lives. In the wild a mongooses lives for only seven years. In captivity though, a mongooses can live for up to twenty years.

A mongooses senses are extremely good. They have good eyesight, hearing, and sense of smell. Are mongooses poison resistant? They are poison resistant because it would take eight times the lethal dose to kill it.

Thanks for listening! I hope you enjoyed it!
