2: ZZ Top ZZ top was created 1969 in Houston, Texas . ZZ top has created 19 albums, and in 1994 was inducted to the rock hall of fame. The original members of the band have been together for nearly 40 years, which is a feat no other major rock band can claim. Gibbons and Hill, two members of the band, have been growing their beards since 1979. They were the first and last band to play McNichols Arena in Denver.
3: The yellow rose of Texas "Yellow Rose of Texas" was handwritten on a piece of plain paper circa 1836. In 1858, the first copyrighted edition of the song was published in New York. As the American Civil War began, it was adopted as a marching song by soldiers everywhere. In 1864 with the end of the war nearing, a fourth stanza was added. The original transcription was poorly made and full of spelling errors.
4: XIT rodeo There was nothing in the history of the West quite like the XIT Ranch. In the 1880s, it was the largest ranch in the world under fence, and it sprawled across the Texas Panhandle up from the old Yellow House headquarters near what is now Lubbock, northward to the Oklahoma Panhandle in a crazy strip that was roughly thirty miles wide. Matt Kimbrow , no justice,and Roger Creager are some bands and people who sing at the rodeo.
5: waterloo Ice house The first waterloo ice house opened its doors in 1976 in texas. Its been open for over 30 years. Their meals there are homemade and fresh. The waterloo ice house has become a legendary venue, giving artists like Lyle Lovett and Uncle Walt's band their start. Their dining room still comes alive with the sounds of some of Austin's best musicians.
6: University of Texas fight song "Texas Fight" is the official fight song of the University of Texas at Austin and was written by Colonel Walter S. Hunnicutt in collaboration with James E. King, then director of the Marlin High School Band. It is sung to a fast tempo version Taps, a song played at many military funerals."Texas Fight" is played following touchdowns and extra points at University of Texas football games, other Longhorn sports events, as well as on other occasions of celebration. The repeated strain contains portions of "The Eyes of Texas," the school's alma mater.
7: Verizon Wireless Theater (venue) The Verizon Wireless Theater (formerly Aerial Theater) is an indoor theater owned by Live Nation and located in Houston, Texas, United States. The theater is located at 520 Texas Avenue in the 130,000-square-foot (12,000 m2) Bayou Place entertainment complex in Downtown Houston. A variety of acts have performed in this venue ranging from Velvet Revolver, The Killers, Elton John, and other musical acts, to comedy.
8: The eyes Of Texas The song was written in 1903 by John Sinclair. It is the the alma mater of the University of Texas at Austin."The Eyes of Texas are Upon You," meaning that the state of Texas was watching and expecting the students to go out and do great things. The Eyes of Texas is also the sung at the graduation of University of Texas Medical Branch.
9: South by South West SXSW first began in 1987. South by Southwest one of the most notable events in the area of independent movie, music industry as well as emerging interactive technologies is now taking place in Austin, Texas. SXSW event series represent an opportunity for independent movie producers, musicians, bloggers, game developers, social media gurus to discover new ways of pursuing their business, establish new connections and mingle with industry insiders.
10: Robert Earl robert earl born November 17th, 1926, Texas. This popular ballad singer enjoyed several hits in the late '50s. After becoming a semi-professional with the dance bands of Sidney Lipton and Nat Temple, he turned full-time professional in 1950, and appeared frequently on radio and television programmes such as the JACK JACKSON SHOW and OFF THE RECORD. In 1958, he just beat Perry Como with his version of I May Never Pass This Way Again. Later that year, however, his More Than Ever (Come Prima) was kept out of the Top 10 by Malcolm Vaughan. Earl's last hit was Wonderful Secret Of Love, in 1959.
11: Selena quintarilla Selena was born to Mexican American parents on April 16th 1971 in Lake Jackson Texas. She was the youngest child of Abraham Quintanilla Jr. and Marcella Ofelia Samora. Selena was known as “The Queen of Tejano”. h. Selena and her group “Los Dinos” created a unique sound by mixing in Colombian cumbia, pop and R&B – winning them fans all over the United States, Latin America and the world. Selena is loved by her fans for her kindness, her love of her fans, her positive attitude and, of course, the wonderful music she made. Selena started showing an interest singing when she was three years old. At six, she was singing in both English and Spanish – although because she did not know how to speak Spanish at the time, she sang phonetically. When Selena was nine, her father started a musical group.
12: Pecan street festival Twice a year, twenty-four blocks of 6th Street, downtown Austin’s Entertainment District (Brazos to I-35) are transformed into the annual Pecan Street Festival. With more than 300 juried artists and original artisans, three stages of live music, a wide variety of ethnic and regional food, children’s workshops and more, the Pecan Street Festival has been a family tradition for thirty-three years. Festival-goers enjoy magicians, jugglers, comedians, dancers, international cuisine, carnival rides and thousands of beautiful people. As a free, family event, the Pecan Street Festival is the largest FREE art festival in Central Texas, attracting over 300,000 people per event while generating $43 million in economic impact. Local musicians provide entertainment on three stages, beginning at Noon and continuing into the late evening hours, and proceeds benefit local charities.
13: One world theater From private concerts and galas, to birthday parties, bar mitzvahs and graduations, One World Theatre produces the most spectacular events. they have booked superstars, Clint Black and Linda Ronstadt, for private, intimate concerts, and housed high profile political events and fundraisers featuring Willie Nelson, Shawn Colvin and Lyle Lovett. They host music videos, auctions, award ceremonies, television premiers, and CD releases, and create unforgettable theme parties such as casino, luau, Moroccan and more.
14: Night in old San Antonio is a four-night event that celebrates San Antonio's diverse cultural heritage with 15 ethnic areas that serve fabulous foods in over 250 food booths and provides entertainment to over 85,000 revelers. NIOSA will occur April 12-15, 2011, from 5:30pm. to 10:30pm. nightly during the city's 10-day Fiesta celebration. La Villita National Historic District - the 18th century Spanish neighborhood set on the banks of the San Antonio River in the heart of downtown San Antonio - becomes the venue for "A Night In Old San Antonio®". Even though the gates close and coupon/alcohol beverage sales stop at 10pm. nightly, food sales and entertainment continue until 10:30pm Produced by 16000 dedicated volunteers, this will be the 64th year. Ask anyone who attends NIOSA what the four-day event is all about, and just about everyone will say that it's about meeting and eating.
15: Majestic Theater On April 11, 1921, the new Majestic Theater opened it’s doors during the Vaudeville era. The Majestic hosted a variety of acts from Houdini to Mae West and Bob Hope. The Majestic Theater was named to the National Register of Historic Places and re-opened on January 28, 1983, as an elegant center for the performing arts in downtown Dallas.
16: Lonestar Pavilion at Sunset Station One of the largest historic facilities in san antonio. Its a 10 acre facility in the district of st. paul square, can hold up to 20,000 guests. they offer over 100,000 square feet space. the pavilion features space plaza area where many concerts may be held.
17: Kerrville folk festival The Kerrville Music Festivals are family oriented events which are held each year on the Quiet Valley Ranch, just 9 miles south of the resort town of Kerrville in the heart of the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Our two annual festivals are the Kerrville Folk Festival and the Kerrville Wine & Music Festival. Founded by Rod Kennedy, the Kerrville Folk Festival has run annually since 1972. they play More than just a “folk music” festival, Kerrville offers music of many styles including traditional folk, bluegrass, acoustic rock, blues, country, jazz, and Americana.
18: Jones hall The performance hall in this venue is lush. Red velvet seats let you view the performance in comfort, while the venue itself can be altered to enhance both sound and sight. Overhead are 800 hexagons that are used to create the perfect setting for any show. With a year round calendar, Jones Hall brings in more than 400,000 visitors a year. They come to see shows by the Houston Symphony, the Society for the Performing Arts, and plays by the Houston Broadway. But Jones Hall tickets also bring in more contemporary performers as a counterpoint to the great works of Wagner and Brahms regularly featured by the Houston Symphony. Jones hall is Houston Texas.
19: The invincible Czars Each year, the Austin-based rock band THE INVINCIBLE CZARS perform their wacky rock version of the music from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, and each year it gets better! This new Texas holiday tradition began in December 2004 when the band introduced its version of the Suite to Austin at two shows: a children's matinee and a later, louder show aimed at the bands existing rock fan base. Since then, the group has continued the tradition yearly, entertaining people of all ages with their unlikely holiday hit. In 2007, the band self-released a studio recording of the Suite which became the seventh highest selling holiday CD at Waterloo Records that year.
20: Htown Arena Theatre Htown Arena Theatre has long been considered one of the top live music and entertainment venues in Houston, Texas, as for more than 30 years its box office tickets has featured larger than life musical guests and comedy acts. Htown Arena Theatre enjoyed a 30 year run from its location of 7322 S.W. Freeway in Houston, TX, providing event tickets that featured George Benson, Al Jarreau, Bill Cosby, Kenny Rogers, Steve Martin, and Diana Ross. After taking a four year hiatus, Htown Arena Theatre is back and better than ever, and the Houston venue is committed to bringing top concerts and comedy events to the people of Texas. The box office enjoyed phenomenal ticket sales during its highly successful run and will again, partly because of a great seating design that allows you to have unobstructed sightlines throughout the venue. With its circular design, Htown Arena Theatre in Houston really has no need for the traditional mezzanine and balcony seating found in most Broadway venues.
21: Selena Gomez Selena Gomez was born and raised in Grand Prairie, Texas. Her mother Amanda is an Italian woman from Dallas, Texas and her father Ricardo Gomez is from New Mexico. Selena started out on "Barney & Friends" She had a small role in spy kids the movie: game over. Selena's amazing talent landed her roles in two Disney series, both spin-offs. Unfortunately, neither show was picked up until 2007
22: Fredricksburg food and Wine Festival The Fredericksburg Food and Wine Fest will be in its 21st year in 2011. Held in downtown Fredericksburg, Texas, on Marktplatz (the 100 block of West Main Street). It is a full-course celebration of Texas food, wine, music, specialty booths, food court, and fun for all.
23: Emo's Emo's Austin, Austin's best small venue for live music, is located just off 6th Street on Red River. On any given night you will find some of the best bands and the most colorful staff and patrons in all of Austin. Emo's sports two stages, one inside and one outside. A guy named Emo opened Emo’s. Emo’s has played host to numerous ground-breaking bands
24: Demi Lovato Her sisters are Dallas Lovato and Madison De La Garza. Her mom, Dianna Hart, was a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader during the the 1982-83 season, and was a country recording artist. She is a skilled pianist and guitar player. Gets most of her clothes from Forever 21 and most of her shoes from Aldo. Her favorite band is paramore, her favorite song by them is born for this.
25: Hill country band Cheryl Floyd is in her nineteenth year as Director of Bands at HillCountryMiddle School in Austin, Texas. Prior to her tenure at Hill Country, she served as Director of Bands at MurchisonMiddle School, also in Austin, for eight years. Musical organizations under her leadership have consistently been sited for musical excellence at both local contests and national invitational festivals. Mrs. Floyd is recognized nationally for her educational and musical achievements at the middle school level. In 1990 her Murchison program was the recipient of the coveted Sudler Cup Award presented to exemplary middle school band programs by the John Philip Sousa Foundation. The Hill Country Middle School Band has performed at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in 1998 and again in 2006 under Mrs. Floyd’s direction.
26: Beyonce Beyonce Giselle Knowles was born to costume designer Tina Knowles and former salesman Mathew Knowles. Beyonce also has a younger sister Solange. From a young age, Beyonce won over thirty local singing and dancing competitions. She also attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, but later went to Alief Elsik High School. Beyonce rose to fame as lead singer of the world’s best-selling female group, Destiny’s Child.
27: ACL festival ACL Festival is an annual three-day American music festival that takes place in Austin, Texas at the city's central public park, Zilker Park.Each year, in addition to food & art, most from local vendors. ACL Festival brings together more than 130 acts from all over the world to play rock, indie, country, folk, electronic and more on eight stages. Over 70,000 fans attend the festival each day. In 2011, ACL Festival celebrates its 10th Anniversary on September 16-18
