BC: And my growth is just the beginning...
FC: The Personal Growth Portfolio of Kimberly Conner
 My Early Beginnings
I was born on October 29, 1987 in Omaha, Nebraska, as the first of two children to Richard and Suzette Conner.
Exactly 17 months later, my parents had my younger sister Jennifer. From the moment of her birth we were inseparable.
I have always been told that I was a talkative and outgoing child that was full of life.
At every opportunity, my parents took Jennifer and me on road trips, instilling our appreciation for travel.
Once my sister was born, our family moved on average every 4 years. | We lived in Omaha, Atlanta, New Orleans, and went to High School in Pennsylvania.
At first, it was difficult making friends as I was one of two African Americans in my class. But eventually, I developed my core group of close friends.
In high school, I developed my first serious relationship with my ex-boyfriend James
James was from Brooklyn, NY and from a large Panamanian family | Because of our different upbringings, we struggled to relate to one another.
After High School, I went to college in Pittsburgh. I had to adapt being hundreds of miles away from James and my parents, as they had moved to Montana
To make matters harder, my sister spent the year away in Europe for study abroad. Although I loved the University of Pittsburgh, I had a difficult time fitting in and finding my place when I was missing my family. Every weekend I took a 4-hour bus back to my hometown to visit James, the closest loved one I had.
After a year in Montana... | my parents relocated to West Palm Beach!
I decided to transfer to USF to be closer to my parents, and James moved down with me to discover a new way of life.
Once we moved to Tampa, our relationship slowly became emotionally abusive. I ended our relationship of 3 1/2 years
At this time my relationship with my boyfriend had ended and my relationship with my sister was strained as her year in Europe changed her drastically. I felt very alone and depressed.
To make more connections I joined Alpha Kappa Psi, a co-ed business fraternity at USF.
Through AKPsi, I met Greg. We were immediately attracted to each other physically and socially. We have now been together for 6 months and he is my best friend.
Now that I am nearing graduation I know who I am as a person and the people who matter the most... | I better appreciate the people in my life by working on improving my communication with them.
Improving my communication allows me to be the best woman, daughter, sister, friend, and girlfriend I can be.
