The communists were slowly taking control of Europe, and Europe was soon divided. | NATO - Formed in 1949 it was an alliance by western Europe in order to defend Western Europe against the communist. | Warsaw Pact- Alliance formed by the Eastern European countries as a response to NATO
4: Communism- sociopolitical movement that aims for a classless and stateless society VS Capitalism- an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods,
5: Josef Stalin- Leader of Communist Russia Truman - Decided to Drop the Atomic Bomb to end WWII Cold War- was the political conflict, and economic competition between the US and USSR.
7: Containment Policy was the United States' way of dealing with the spread of communism. Key concepts: Truman Doctrine: sent aid to Greece and Turkey to resist communism Domino Theory: said that if one nation fell to communism then all the countries around them would fall too

9: The Korean War it was a military conflict between North and South Korea. it's importance was that it was only one of the first times that the US went to war in order to enforce containment.
10: Key People: General McArthur- Leader of the US forces in Korean Kim Il Sung- Leader of North Korea Mathew Treadway- - After the Fall of Japan Korea was Divided into North and South Korea. The dividing lines between the two countries was called the 38th parallel
11: -Seoul is the capital of South Korea. North Korea wanted to capture it because it would ensure that they would be able to take South Korea. \ Inchon- Through a surprise amphibious assault far from the Pusan Perimeter that UN and South Korean forces were desperately defending, the largely undefended city of Incheon was secured after being bombed by UN forces. The battle ended a string of victories by the invading North Korean People's Army (NKPA). The subsequent UN recapture partially severed NKPA's supply lines in South Korea.

13: One of the most unpopular wars in the United states' history. It was a war with the intention of stopping the spread of communism but in the end gave no results.

15: HO CHI MINH TRAIL- TRAIL THAT ENABLED NORTH VIETNAMESE,COMMUNIST TROOPS TO TRAVEL CLOSE TO SAIGON IN S. VIETNAM VIETNAMZATION - NIXON;S PLAN TO ENCOURAGE AND TRAIN SOUTH VIETNAMESE PEOPLE TO TAKE MORE PART IN THE WAR. NIXON HOPED THAT THIS WILL WITHDRAW US TROOPS FROM VIETNAM.
16: NAPALM AND AGENT ORANGE NAPALM A THICKENING AGENT WAS USED TO MAKE NAPALM BOMBS AND THEY WERE GREATLY USED DURING THE WAR IN VIETNAM AGENT ORGANGE IS A HERBICITE THAT WAS USED TO DESTROY SOME OF THE FOREST IN VIETNAM IN ORDER TO ASSIT THE US FORCES IN THEIR FIGHT IN VIETNAM.

20: STAR WARS TREATY- TREATY BETWEEN THE US AND SOVIET UNION TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF ATOMIC WEAPONS THAT EACH COUNTRIES CAN POSSES.
21: FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL- IN 1989 THE WALL THAT DIVIDED EAST AND WEST GERMANY FELL SIMBOLIZING THE END OF COMMUNISM AND THE STEEP DECLINE OF SOVIET POWER.
