My name is Scout Finch. I'm an 8 year old girl living in Maycomb, | Alabama. I have a brother named Jem and my dad's name is Atticus. We have a cook named Calpurnia, and for a while, my Aunt Alexandra was living with us.
This is Maycomb. I've lived here all my life. It is a small town and everyone knows everyone. If you go down the road a few miles, there's a small town of black people.
This is my dad Atticus Finch. He is a lawyer and used to be the best shot in town. He is very respectful to everyone and I look up to him.
This is my 12 year old brother Jem. He wants to be just like Atticus when he grows up. Lately he's been really moody because of something Atticus calls puberty. I love him although sometimes he talks down to me.
In first grade, my teacher ended up being really mean. When Calpurnia taught me how to read, Mrs. Caroline scolded me and told me to stop. Also, when I tried to tell her about the Cunningham boy, she yelled at me and put me in the corner.
This is the dirty old man named Bob Ewell. He tried to attack me and my | brother, fortunately our neighbor Boo Radley was there to save us. Bob is Mayella's father, the woman who accused a black man of rape. My dad took the case, but he still lost.
When me and Jem were walking down the street one | day, I found a pack of gum just laying in the | knot of a tree. I don't know who put it there but i am thankful for it
This is my pork costume that I wore in the Maycomb | pageant. This was also the night that Bob Ewell attacked | me and my brother Jem. Unfortunately the pork costume got destroyed.
"The day was twenty-four hours long, but it seemed longer. There was no hurry, for there was nowhere to go and nothing to buy,. and no money to buy it with, nothing to see outside the boundaries of Maycomb county. But it was a time of vague optimism for some people: Maycomb County had recently been told that it had nothing to fear but fear itself."(Lee 6)
