1: On August 9, 2001, Barry Meyer proposed to Robyn Mitnick. He gave her a $19,500 engagement ring.
2: A few months after she accepted the proposal, he asked her to sign a pre-nup.
3: She refused to sing the pre-nup. The reasons are unclear. But both parties say the other caused the breakup.
4: After the breakup, Barry asked for the engagement ring back. | Robyn refused to give it back. | So, Barry sued Robyn, and took her to court.
5: Barry brought suit, saying the ring was a conditional gift given to Robyn in the act of marriage. Robyn argued that it was an unconditional gift, and she was entitled to keep it because he broke off the engagement.
6: After the breakup, the court had to decide who was entitled to have possession of the ring.
7: D E C I S I O N | The Court decided that because it was Robyn's fault that caused the breakup of the engagement. Barry was entitled to have possession of the ring.
