FC: Task 11: Location Recce

what I've found out... | After gaining my audience research I found that the best two possible locations and most stereotypical are the woods and a house. For my film I would like to interpret both locations to make my film more interesting, diverse and more likely to be successful due to the past history of using these locations for horror films. | Furthermore I do not want to rule out all other locations and have looked at the possibility of using a college as a location. The names of these locations and photographs are attached below: Lane End; House: The Henley College: Lane End Wood’s.: Juniper Drive: House:

Potential Locations | Lane End; House: | The Henley College | Lane End Wood's | Juniper Drive House

House in Lane End | PROS -house is a stereotypical horror location -current films such as THE PACT and THE HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET have been very successful and popular...implying that this is a current popular location which my audience will like -good access to electricity and lighting so shots will be high quality - | CONS -possible that too many films have been filmed in houses recently so my audience will not be very interested

The Henley College | PROS -unusual location which may gain interest because of the uniqueness -good access to electricity and lighting | CONS -lots of people around all of the time who may get in my way and ruin shots/pro-long filming time -doesn't fit well with narrative -from my audience research a school at the main location was not the most popular choice

LANE END WOODS | PROS -during the day i can use natural daylight-realistic lighting -woods are a stereotypical convention for a horror film -in general woods are thought to be "scary" places -in my audience research i found a wood was a popular location | CONS -no access to electricity and lighting (although horrors=low lighting so its not too much of a problem) -maybe too many trees/branches in the way to film -hard to film running shots due to mass of trees

JUNIPER DRIVE HOUSE | Pros -Its a typical location for a horror -recent popular modern films have been set in houses -in my target audience research i found that a house was a popular choice for a location | Con -possible that too many films have been filmed in houses recently so my audience will not be very interested | s

CONCLUSION AND CHOICES... | Another reason why i want to use the house in Lane End and the Lane End woods is because they are in the same place and it makes it easier to film/more realistic because the house is actually near to the woods. The juniper drive house does not have a nearby wood so filming would have become more time consuming. | I have decided that the most likable and best suited locations for my film will be the Lane End house and woods. In my target research both a house and the woods came up as the most probable locations for a horror. Recently i have watched many films edging more to the house location; "The House At The End of The Street" but i would like to use both locations to create a stereotypical successful horror film. Even thought a school was ruled out in my target audience research i still thought i would look into the pros and cons of having a school/college as my main location. i think going against my target audience research would be a foolish idea and therefore should not use the college as my location purely because my target audience would prefer other locations...and after all they will be the ones watching it.
