S: Archetypes and the Heroic cycle on The Goonies

FC: The Goonies Directed by: Richard Donner | Archetype's and The heroic cycle

1: What is the Heroic cycle? | Relating to, or resembling the heroes of literature, legend, or myth. Or in simple terms the Heroic Cycle is the cycle of adventure someone goes through in a movie, book, or video game. This idea comes from Joseph Campbell. | What is an Archetype? | The original pattern or model from which all things of the same kind are copied or on which they are based; a model or first form; prototype. This idea came from Carl Jung.

2: The Heroic Cycle | The Hero is propelled by universal drives that we can all understand; the desire to be loved, understood, to succeed, to survive etc.

3: Michael "Mikey" Walsh is the hero in the Goonies. He demonstrates courage, strength, and faith in what he believers in. Mikey know that there is a treasure even though all of his friends do not believe there is. Mike goes on the adventure of finding the treasure so that he can pay off all his fathers debt that way his family wont have to move,

4: The call to adventure

5: The Walsh family cant pay the bills anymore. They have to move out of the house and city that the kids love so much. Mikey and Brand and Mikey's friends end up going up into the attic which they were told never to do. There they find a map. A map leading to treasure that many people in the past have died trying to find. Mikey believes that if they find this treasure that they can save the house so that they wont have to move.

6: Helpers and Mentors | The helpers and mentors in The Goonies is: Brand, Chunk, Mouth, Andy, Stef, and Data. They are helpers because they help him get to the supreme test.They give Mikey advice and help him get through the tests he encounters.

8: Crossing the Threshold/Threshold Guardian's

9: Crossing the Threshold in The Goonies is when they don't get out of the cave at the well. Once they choose not to leave they knew there was no going back and they had to continue till they finished the adventure. | The Threshold Guardians are the Fratilles. They don't want Mikey to get to the treasure and they don't want Chunk to go to the Police. They try as hard as they can to get the kids but they fail.

10: The shadow Realm | The cave that the kids enter is the shadow realm; because they go through obstacles and have to get through traps. This is a place where the kids have never been and have never even heard of.

11: Shapeshifter | Sloth is the shapeshifter. He is the shapeshifter because he belongs to the Fratillies and ends up helping the kids get to the treasure and get away from the Fratillies.

12: The shadow | The shadow is the fratillies. They are dark mean people who do not want the kids to succeed in the adventure they do everything they can to get the kids and kill them.

14: Tests and Helpers | The Tests are the kids having to get away from the Fratillies and also getting through all the traps that are in the cave.

15: The helpers are all of Mikes friends. They help him get through the obstacles. get away from the Fratallies and get to the treasure.

16: The Reward/Boon

17: After the kids got through all of the traps in the cave they reached the treasure of One Eyed Willy. But the adventure still wasn't over. The Fratillies came back and thats when the Shapeshifter sloth came in and saved the kids from the Fratillies.

18: The Return Home

19: The Return home cant just be going home and being done with everything. The hero had to learn or gain something out of the adventure. What Mikey gained is exactly what he needed to get. The treasure that the kids found cleared all the debt that they had and Mikey didn't have to move, and their house weren't going to be torn down for a country club. Not only did Mikey get what he wanted but Brand also ended up with Andy.
