FC: Their Eyes Were Watching God.

In the novel their eyes were watching god the author used imagery many times to help understand how Janie feels and what her life has been like ever since her nanny forced her into marriage at a young age. She also uses imagery to show us how maybe some of the obstacles and events in our own lives can relate to Janie.

This picture acts as a symbol for a sailboat and also acts as a quote that was on the very first page of the novel. The quote says "ships in the distance have every man's wish on board, for some they true and the rest they float in with the tide". This quote is saying how everyone has a dream but only some peoples come true. This relates to Janie because she had a dream of finally being able to be with the one she loved which was Tea Cake. Near the end of the book her dream came ashore and after her husband for 20 years dies she then left town and went to be with Tea Cake.

The quote and symbol of the two ships in the distance also relate to me because just like everyone else i also have dreams. My two dreams are to become successful and happy after i graduate and to marry my true love. Hopefully I will be one of the few people whos dream comes true.

The previous picture is a picture of presents. Janie throughout the book for the most part was wrapped up like a present when she was with her husband for 20 years. Janie was very intelligent but her husband made her hide to the people in town how smart she truely was.

The present symbol also somewhat relates to me because when I first meet new people I'm not as totally comfortable as I am to people i have known for years. When i first meet new people for the first time I am wrapped up like a present. However after the first couple conversations i get much more comfortable and open up.

This previous picture is a picture of a gun. It is used as a symbol for when at the end of the novel when Tea Cake was very sick he tried to shoot Janie because he was mad in the head. I think this picture represents Janie because she also had a gun which she shot Tea Cake with. If she would not have shot Tea Cake then he would have died of a slow and painful death instead of quickly and not as painful. Janie shot Tea Cake to save herself and more importantly save him because she truely loved and cared about him. This symbol relates to Janie because she used a gun to save her husband.

The previous symbol of a gun related to me because if someone I cared about like Janie cared about Tea Cake i would try to help them and do what is best for them. I'm not saying i would shoot them since I am very sure that I will never be in a situation like that but if someone I loved was in trouble or sick I would do whatever it would take to help them, make them better and do what is the best for them.
